Need-based scholarships make up the majority of our financial aid offers, so our students can fully participate in our community without the burden of debt. We believe in the value of diverse perspectives to stretch our minds and strengthen our impact, which is why we’re making it financially possible for talented students from all backgrounds to explore life at Hopkins.

Hopkins Need-Based Scholarships

Federal & State Grants

Hopkins Scholarships

These make up the majority of our financial aid offers and come from our institutional funds and endowments. They are automatically included in your financial aid offer and don’t need to be paid back. The amount varies depending on your financial need, and can change from year to year if your family’s household or financial circumstances change.

Cummings Scholars Program

The Cummings Scholars Program recognizes high-achieving graduates of Baltimore City and Washington, DC public and public charter schools. In addition to the financial award, the Cummings Scholars participate in programming to enhance their undergraduate experience. Learn more about Cummings Scholars here.

Clark Scholarship

The Clark Scholars Program provides a generous scholarship to use toward college costs. As part of the program, you’ll participate in specialized academic programs and opportunities to develop your leadership skills and enhance your undergraduate experience.

This need-based scholarship is renewable for up to three additional years.

Davis United World College (Uwc) Scholars Program

We’re a proud partner of the Davis United World College (UWC) Scholars Program, the largest privately funded, international scholarship program in the world. Questbridge Scholars Program

The QuestBridge Scholar Program is a college admission and scholarship program through which high-achieving, low-income students can be admitted early with full four-year scholarships to QuestBridge college partners​. For the National College Match, Hopkins will most strongly consider students with total family incomes of $80,000 or less, and family assets typical for that income level. Students who do not fit this financial profile can still be considered for regular decision at Hopkins, and if admitted, can expect to receive a competitive financial aid offer that meets 100% of demonstrated need through need-based scholarships and work-study opportunities.

Hodson Gilliam Success Scholarship

The Hodson-Gilliam Success Scholarship is a renewable scholarship awarded to incoming first-year students for academic and personal achievement who have demonstrated financial need. Federal Pell Grant

This federal funding is approved annually by Congress, and Pell Grant eligibility is determined by the Department of Education to support students with limited financial resources. Students are automatically considered for Federal Pell Grants when they complete the FAFSA.

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (Fseog)

This federal funding is for undergraduate students who are working toward their first degree and have exceptional financial need. Students are automatically considered for FSEOG funds when they complete the FAFSA.

State Aid

You may be eligible for state scholarships to help fund your Hopkins education. Your state scholarship agency makes all decisions about scholarships, and some states may require a separate application.

If you’re a Maryland resident, the Howard P. Rawlings Guaranteed Access Grant can help cover the cost of Hopkins or any other college. To qualify, you’ll need to complete the FASFA by March 1 each year. Hopkins provides a matching award to anyone who receives this grant. Visit the Maryland Higher Education Commission to learn more about each program and other state scholarships.

Maryland also offers a Student Loan Debt Relief Tax Credit for borrowers with at least $20,000 in student-loan debt and at least $5,000 outstanding debt.

If you provide public service to the state or local government or a nonprofit agency, you may apply for the Janet L. Hoffman Loan Assistance Repayment Program (LARP) by November 30.
