About Back to the Roots

Back to the Roots is America's #1 organic gardening company, dedicated to reconnecting families to where their food comes from through fun, simple, and educational gardening products. We're committed to sustainability, innovation, and making organic gardening accessible to everyone — and we're growing fast.

About This Role

The Network Fulfillment Specialist will support our network fulfillment team within our Operations department. We have an extensive network of fulfillment centers where we ship products directly to consumers, and as we continue to grow and scale, we need someone to help support and manage these centers.

This person will be responsible for ensuring these facilities are well stocked. You will translate demand signals into a replenishment schedule, maintain real-time inventory visibility across all fulfillment centers, and flag risks before they become issues. You will be the main connector between us and getting product to customers as quickly and cost-effectively as possible. You will also support fulfillment of some of our B2C orders.

You work best when you own something fully, and you take pride in getting the details right. You bring analytical rigor to support our growth and expansion as we look to continue expanding our network to best position ourselves to support all of our customers (B2B & B2C). You also work best within a team dynamic that helps drive data-driven decisions.

This role is fully remote. If you happen to be based in the SF Bay Area, we get together for weekly company lunches at our Oakland headquarters — so come hungry. But we're looking for the best person for the job, wherever they are.

What You'll Own

Inventory Management

  • Ensure adequate inventory levels at all times across our 35+ external fulfillment facilities
  • Facilitate replenishments with co-manufacturers and co-packers, including fulfillment requests and freight coordination
  • Translate demand signal — sales forecasts and historical data — into a clear replenishment plan that we can share with our production team, so they can ensure we have what we need, when we need it
  • Support end-of-month inventory verification and reconciliation, catching discrepancies before they become accounting or fulfillment problems

Network Order Fulfillment

  • Support order fulfillment for our B2C customers
  • Ensure each co-manufacturer has the paperwork they need daily, on time to meet vendor turn times
  • Schedule pickups with assigned external carriers

Transfer Orders Tracking

  • Manage all inventory transfers between our co-manufacturers and our fulfillment centers within NetSuite
  • Ensure all documents are kept up to date with accurate data, so NetSuite reflects real-time inbounds to our centers
  • Track delivery status and provide updates to external partners as needed
  • Track costs associated with deliveries

Network Expansion Support

  • Help identify possible partners within targeted regions
  • Provide analytical support to the Network Fulfillment & Operations Manager as new potential partners are identified
  • Provide cost analysis and other reporting as needed to support data-driven decisions

Analysis, Reporting & Continuous Improvement

  • Build and maintain performance dashboards tracking key metrics — in-stock rate, weeks on hand, order processing time, storage cost, and freight spend — to give the team visibility into performance against budget & KPIs
  • Work with the Network Fulfillment & Operations Manager to develop internal tools and processes that make replenishment planning sustainable and scalable as we expand our network
  • Support improvement of our fulfillment network by modeling network scenarios, freight costs, and inventory positioning across manufacturing and distribution tiers

Requirements

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, Operations, or a related field — or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • 2–4 years of experience in production planning, operations analysis, or supply chain coordination, ideally in a manufacturing, CPG, or co-man environment.
  • High proficiency in Google Sheets or Microsoft Excel — pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, scenario modeling, large data sets. You are faster and more accurate than the average analyst.
  • Experience with NetSuite or another ERP system strongly preferred; you know how to keep systems clean and up to date.
  • Strong analytical instincts — you read between the numbers, anticipate issues before they surface, and translate data into a clear action plan.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and follow-through. You do not let things fall through the cracks.
  • Clear communicator — written and verbal — with internal teams and external manufacturing partners.
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, lean team environment where you own your work and figure things out.
  • Experience in lawn & garden, soil, agriculture, or a category with multi-site co-manufacturing is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Google Suite (Gmail, Sheets, Docs, Drive).

What Success Looks Like

  • Soil production planning is seamless — because this role owns it.
  • We enter peak season with a clear, sequenced production plan across all sites, and the team is executing against it — not scrambling.
  • Inventory discrepancies are caught before month-end, not discovered after.
  • Supply risks are flagged two to three weeks before they become problems.
  • The team has real-time visibility into production status without needing to chase down updates.

How to Apply & To be Considered

Please submit your resume and a brief note on what draws you to this role and how your experience maps to it. In the header of your note, please include: "I am the next Network Fulfillment Specialist at Back to the Roots!"

Benefits

  • Full medical, dental, and vision healthcare coverage
  • Unlimited vacation and sick days
  • Commuter pre-tax mass-transit and parking
  • 401(k) retirement plan
  • Personal cell phone reimbursement
