Overview

Novo Nordisk Foundation Laureate Research Grants support recruitment to, or retention in, Denmark of outstanding established biomedical research leaders.

Complete grant details

Up to DKK 60 million is available per grant for a project lasting up to seven years. The programme is designed to recruit an outstanding established biomedical researcher from abroad to Denmark or retain an outstanding researcher in Denmark while expanding their research and collaborations.

Eligibility requirements

The candidate must be a principal investigator who has directed an independent research programme for at least seven years. If funded, the candidate must work on-site at the Danish host institution for at least 75% of a full-time position and fully establish the principal research group in Denmark within two years. Candidates may have any nationality. Current NNF expert review committee/panel members and Novo Group employees are not eligible.

Tips for this grant

Practical Job and Scholarship guidance. These tips do not replace official rules or create new eligibility requirements.

  1. Secure formal support from the intended Danish host institution before Stage I.
  2. Confirm that the 75% on-site commitment and Denmark group-establishment requirements are feasible.
  3. Check eligibility, funding coverage, study/project level and every required document before investing time in the application.
  4. Prepare transcripts, references, language tests, proposal/motivation statement and proof documents early.
  5. Separate the scholarship deadline from any university/program admission deadline; they may be different.
  6. Treat “fully funded” as a source fact only when the official provider explicitly confirms the covered costs.

Verification notes

Verified on the foundation’s current Laureate call page. Stage I closes 27 October 2026 at 2:00pm Copenhagen time; Denmark is on CET (UTC+1) on 27 October 2026, so this is normalized to 13:00 UTC. Stage II is invitation-only with a 3 February 2027 deadline. The source states the DKK 60 million maximum, up-to-seven-year duration and current eligibility rules.
