The current BSF programme lists 27 NSF–BSF programmes. Some, including Materials (DMR), Electrical Communications and Cyber Systems (ECCS), and Civil, Mechanical and Manufacturing Innovation (CMMI), accept proposals throughout the year with no separate BSF deadline; other disciplines have fixed 2026 dates. Israeli-side budgets are capped at up to US$114,000 per year for experimental studies and US$94,000 per year for theoretical/computer-based studies, with the Israeli grant normally matching the NSF project duration and sometimes extending to five years.
Eligibility requirements
Participation is by collaborating U.S. and Israeli scientists subject to the normal eligibility rules of NSF and BSF. The U.S. PI submits to NSF and the Israeli PI subsequently submits the joint proposal to BSF; the Israeli institution’s research authority must approve the BSF submission.
