OIST's Graduate School admits about 60 full-time graduate students per year into a five-year interdisciplinary PhD program in science. The 2027 round includes an online Admissions Workshop for shortlisted candidates, with possible enrollment dates in May 2027, September 2027 or January 2028. OIST states that admitted PhD students receive Research Assistantship support starting at approximately JPY 2.6 million in the first year and increasing with academic progress up to approximately JPY 3.6 million, with the assistantship framework including support equivalent to tuition fees subject to the university's policies.
