OIST's Spring 2027 Research Internship offers eligible undergraduate, master's and recent graduates a 4–6 month supervised STEM research placement in Okinawa between April and September 2027.

Research interns work in an OIST laboratory under faculty supervision in fields including physics, chemistry, mathematical and computational sciences, marine sciences, neuroscience, molecular and cellular biology, ecology and quantum science. For the Spring 2027 round, internships take place between 1 April and 30 September 2027 and normally last four to six months. OIST states that support includes one direct round-trip air ticket, furnished accommodation, administrative support for Certificate of Eligibility/visa procedures, an internship allowance of JPY 2,400 per working day, and an OIST shuttle-bus pass.
Eligibility requirements
Applicants may be enrolled in the final two years of a bachelor's degree, any year of a master's degree, or have already graduated with a bachelor's or master's degree from an eligible university, college, junior college or vocational school in Japan or overseas. Currently enrolled applicants should follow OIST's institutional approval/recommendation requirements. Selection depends on academic background, suitability for the intended research, available funding and space in the host unit.
