Job Overview

We are currently seeking an experienced and passionate Paediatric Speech and Language Therapist to join a specialist school in West Yorkshire, supporting children and young people with complex learning needs, social and emotional difficulties, and challenging behaviours.

The school provides a highly supportive and specialist educational environment for pupils aged 8 to 17 years. It caters to a diverse cohort of learners with a wide range of needs, offering tailored education and therapeutic support to help pupils achieve positive outcomes both academically and socially.

This role is suitable for a Band 6 therapist looking to further develop their specialist skills, or a Band 7 therapist seeking a more senior or leadership-focused position. You will play a vital role in assessing, diagnosing, and delivering high-quality speech and language interventions, working closely with education and clinical colleagues to support pupils’ communication, emotional regulation, and engagement with learning.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

Assess, diagnose, and support children and young people with Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) alongside complex learning needs and social, emotional, and behavioural difficulties.

Design and deliver individualised therapy programmes tailored to each pupil’s needs.

Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, families, and the wider multi-disciplinary team.

Provide advice, strategies, and training to school staff to support communication across the curriculum.

Maintain accurate and up-to-date clinical records in line with professional and organisational standards.

Contribute to reviews, EHCP processes, and multi-disciplinary meetings.

For Band 7 applicants: offer clinical leadership, mentoring, and supervision to junior colleagues where appropriate.

Qualifications and Experience

To be considered for this role, you must have:

A recognised degree in Speech and Language Therapy (or equivalent).

HCPC registration and eligibility for membership of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT).

Experience working with children or young people with complex needs, ideally within a special school or similar setting.

Strong communication, organisational, and interpersonal skills.

A flexible, reflective, and proactive approach to clinical practice and professional development.
