Full Job Description

Borrowell is looking for a Content Marketing Specialist (2-month contract) to join our Marketing team (20-30 hours/week) and help Canadians make smarter financial decisions. In this role, you'll oversee the planning, ideation, writing, updating, and publishing of content focused on credit cards, rewards, credit scores, and related personal finance topics. Your work will be optimized not just for traditional SEO, but also for GEO/AEO (Generative Engine Optimization/Answer Engine Optimization), ensuring our content performs well across search engines, AI-powered answer engines, and everything in between.

You'll be a key voice in helping Canadians understand complex financial products and make confident, informed choices — all while contributing to content that drives growth for Borrowell.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, ideate, and execute on content topics related to credit cards, rewards programs, credit scores, and adjacent personal finance subjects, informed by keyword research, search trends, competitive analysis, and content performance data.
  • Write clear, accurate, and engaging content including articles, guides, comparisons, and product reviews to help readers make better choices.
  • Optimize content for traditional SEO and emerging GEO/AEO best practices, ensuring articles are well structured for search engines and cited by AI-powered answer engines (e.g., ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews).
  • Audit, update, and refresh existing content to maintain accuracy as credit card offers, interest rates, and rewards structures change.
  • Manage the end-to-end publishing process for marketing website content, including formatting, internal linking, metadata, and coordination with other teams as needed.
  • Measure and report on content performance using tools for page analytics, SEO and GEO.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated familiarity with credit cards, credit scores, and rewards programs through professional experience, personal expertise, or a strong track record of researching and writing about these topics. Your knowledge and interest should go beyond surface-level knowledge: you have real opinions and can speak to things like which credit cards make sense for specific spending categories (e.g., groceries vs. travel vs. dining), how to stack or combine cards to maximize rewards, strategies for optimizing points and cashback redemption, and how factors like utilization or hard inquiries affect credit scores.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex financial concepts into clear, accessible content. Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy, given the financial sensitivity of content.

  • Proven ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines with minimal oversight.

  • Experience with SEO fundamentals, knowledge of emerging GEO/AEO best practices, and hands-on experience using related tools like Semrush, Moz, Google Search Console, Profound or others.

  • Hands-on experience using a CMS (e.g., WordPress, Contentful) to publish, format, and manage content.

Nice to Haves

  • Experience working at a tech company, startup, or fintech organization.
  • Background in financial services, credit, or lending, either through direct work experience or personal/academic study.
  • Experience managing or posting to social media accounts - ideally, you can also amplify the content you’ll be developing to our social media audience

Benefits

This is a temporary 2-month contract role billing 20-30 hours weekly.

We are remote-first across Canada with an office in Toronto. This role will require you to attend in-person meetings and team-building events in Toronto monthly.

At Borrowell, one of our core values and firm beliefs is that diversity makes us better. If you’re unsure about your qualifications for this position, we’d still encourage you to apply. We’re looking for candidates who have experience, but know that not everyone’s had a chance to demonstrate what they can do. What’s most important is that you have a growth mindset and care about helping people with their finances - an area in their lives that causes a lot of stress.

Please note that due to the sensitive nature of the work we do, clearing a credit and criminal record check is a condition of employment.

Borrowell encourages applications from candidates with differing abilities. Please let us know if you require accommodation at any stage in the selection process.

This posting represents a current and active vacancy within our organization.

The budgeted annual salary range for this role is $60,000-90,000 CAD. Starting pay is determined by the candidate's relevant experience and skills.
