Full job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Payroll Analyst (Temp) based in Canada. This temporary role supports the North American payroll function, processing payroll for more than 700 full-time and part-time employees as well as contingent and freelance teams. You will manage both bi-weekly and semi-monthly payroll activities across the US and Canada, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and regulatory compliance. The role offers an opportunity to work closely with HR, Finance, international payroll teams, and other cross-functional partners. You will contribute to payroll analysis, audits, reconciliations, compliance reviews, and ongoing improvements to payroll processes and systems. The position is well suited to someone analytical, detail-oriented, adaptable, and comfortable handling highly confidential employee information. You will also have the opportunity to support process documentation, system implementations, payroll tax registrations, and other operational projects. The role operates in a collaborative environment where reliability, continuous improvement, and a strong employee experience are highly valued.

Process and prepare accurate bi-weekly and semi-monthly payrolls across multiple states and jurisdictions, ensuring all payroll transactions are completed correctly and on schedule. Reconcile payroll information before transmission, validate confirmed payroll reports, and investigate discrepancies to maintain data accuracy. Partner closely with HR, Finance, international payroll teams, and other stakeholders to resolve payroll-related matters and support smooth cross-functional operations. Conduct payroll audits and research to help maintain compliance with applicable tax developments, legislation, and regulatory requirements. Support payroll and financial audits by preparing relevant information, reviewing records, and providing accurate documentation when required. Perform payroll analysis and research while serving as a point of contact for employee and stakeholder payroll inquiries. Maintain accurate HRIS and payroll system data, including new hires, terminations, promotions, compensation changes, title changes, benefits, and garnishments. Coordinate with Finance on the recording of payroll and 401(k) transactions within the financial platform, while reviewing and processing freelancer, contractor, benefits, and other recurring invoices. Contribute to ad hoc initiatives such as workflow documentation, new-state payroll tax registrations, process and procedure improvements, and payroll system implementations. Handle sensitive payroll and employee information with the highest degree of integrity, discretion, and confidentiality. Requirements At least 3 years of experience processing payroll for a medium- to large-sized organization, with hands-on experience managing payroll activities across multiple states. Strong understanding of payroll processing, reconciliations, compliance requirements, and the importance of accuracy when managing employee compensation data. Experience with G Suite tools such as Google Drive, Google Docs, and Google Sheets is an advantage, while experience with Ceridian/Dayforce and Workday is also desirable. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with HR, Finance, payroll teams, and other internal stakeholders. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the capacity to research payroll issues, identify discrepancies, and develop practical solutions. A strong work ethic and adaptability are essential for succeeding in a rapidly changing environment with evolving priorities and processes. Ability to manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously while maintaining a high level of attention to detail and working effectively with minimal supervision. Benefits Compensation range of CAD $80,000–$95,000 . Temporary opportunity supporting a large-scale North American payroll operation with exposure to both US and Canadian payroll processes. Collaborative work environment with opportunities to partner across HR, Finance, payroll, and other functions. Exposure to payroll process improvements, system implementations, compliance initiatives, and operational projects. The role is subject to a Return to Office policy; employees living within a commutable distance of an office may be required to work onsite a set number of days per week, in accordance with the applicable policy. An inclusive workplace that values diverse perspectives and is committed to equitable and respectful hiring and employment practices.
