Full Job Description

Auckland One Rail (AOR) is seeking an experienced Payroll Officer to join our People & Culture team on a fixed-term contract through to 31 December 2026. This opportunity has arisen to support the business following a team transition and ensure continuity of payroll services.

Reporting to the Payroll Manager, you will play a key role in delivering accurate and timely payroll processing across the organisation while providing excellent service to internal stakeholders.

About the Role

Key responsibilities include:

  • Accurate inputs and extracts of payroll data where required.
  • Loading new starters and people changes into payroll portal
  • Processing payroll transactions accurately and efficiently
  • Maintaining payroll records and employee data
  • Interpreting employment agreements, contractual terms, and payroll legislation
  • Preparing payroll reports and supporting management with payroll-related data
  • Assisting with payroll system updates and process improvements
  • Responding to payroll enquiries and providing exceptional customer service
  • Supporting payroll compliance and administration activities
  • Working collaboratively within the People & Culture team to meet critical payroll deadlines

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • 3-5 years' payroll experience
  • Experience using Chris21/i-chris or similar payroll systems
  • Strong knowledge of payroll legislation and employment agreements
  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Proven ability to maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive information
  • Experience in a unionised environment will be highly regarded
