Full job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a People Business Partner based in United States. As a People Business Partner, you will serve as a strategic partner to people managers in a fast-growing startup environment. You will help leaders navigate performance, team dynamics, employee relations, and complex workplace challenges. The role gives you ownership of performance management and compensation strategies as the organization continues to scale. You will also shape manager development programs and improve people-related processes and resources. This position requires strong judgment, independence, and the ability to handle sensitive situations with fairness and consistency. Reporting to the VP of People, you will collaborate closely with the broader People Operations team and company leadership.

Partner strategically with people managers, coaching them through performance conversations, team dynamics, leadership challenges, and day-to-day people matters. Own the performance management process end-to-end, evolving review strategies and helping managers establish clear expectations, KPIs, and consistent approaches to addressing performance gaps. Own and continuously improve the compensation strategy by analyzing market data, administering merit and bonus cycles, and partnering with Finance on commission plans. Work with leadership to identify and resolve workplace issues affecting engagement, productivity, or morale, using people data to develop actionable recommendations. Design, deliver, and continuously improve people manager training and development programs that strengthen current leaders and prepare future managers. Contribute to the ongoing improvement of People Operations policies, processes, and self-service resources related to performance, compensation, and people management. Serve as the primary point of contact for employee relations matters and workplace investigations, providing fair, consistent guidance aligned with company policies and applicable legal requirements. Requirements: 7+ years of HR experience, including at least 3 years in an HR Business Partner role. Proven experience owning compensation administration and developing or evolving compensation strategies. Demonstrated experience designing and improving performance management methodologies rather than simply administering an established cycle. Proven ability to independently manage employee relations matters and conduct workplace investigations. Strong coaching and influencing skills, with the ability to build genuine partnerships with people managers and leadership. Highly organized, self-directed, and capable of managing competing priorities with minimal oversight. Strong sense of ownership and follow-through, including the discipline to manage recurring operational responsibilities without close supervision. Based in the San Diego, CA area, with a preference for the ability to work in person 2–4 days per month. SHRM-SCP or SPHR certification is preferred. Comfortable working in a fast-paced, early-stage startup environment. Adaptable and resilient, with a positive approach to changing priorities and circumstances. Collaborative and team-oriented, with a strong commitment to inclusivity and supporting colleagues. Benefits: Salary range of $140,000–$160,000, with individual compensation determined by job-related skills, experience, education, and training. Fully remote work environment with a remote-first culture. Transparent, innovative, and inclusive team culture focused on collaboration and shared success. Access to a strong technology stack and any WeWork location. Monthly cell phone and internet stipend. Comprehensive healthcare plans for employees and their families, with eligibility starting on the first day. Flexible paid time off designed to support rest and recharge. Parental leave to support employees welcoming a new addition to their family.
