ABOUT TOWN We're an applied AI company building a powerful assistant that makes it easy for anyone to create and use software in their everyday work. Town builds a persistent model of you — your voice, judgment, relationships, priorities — and does real work on your behalf across every tool you use: email, calendar, docs, Slack, CRM. It doesn't wait to be prompted. It observes, learns, and acts. We most recently raised a $55M Series A led by Andreessen Horowitz, with participation from Forerunner Ventures and continued support from First Round Capital, Alt Capital, and Conviction — plus angels including Adam D'Angelo, Soleio Cuervo, and Immad Akhund. Our founders, Jean-Denis and Tony, previously led EPD at Plaid and applied AI product at Google. ABOUT THE ROLE This is a build role. You'll own People Operations at Town end to end — onboarding, payroll, benefits, equity operations, immigration, compliance, HRIS — and design the version of it that still holds at 100 people. Most of what you'll own doesn't exist yet, and you'll build it with the Head of Talent and directly alongside Finance, outside counsel, and both founders. The cornerstone of this role is the latitude to build and decide how this function works. The best part is that you'll do it at an applied AI company, using our own product on your own workflows. People Ops is full of work that shouldn't be manual, and here you'll have agents, engineers, and a mandate to automate as much of it as you can to keep the human work human. WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Own onboarding end to end, from signed offer letter through 90 day ramp
• Run Rippling as the system of record: payroll, benefits enrollment, employment data hygiene, and the audits that keep it accurate.
• Own HR compliance: employment policy, state registrations, leave administration, 401(k) and Form 5500, and the reporting obligations that come with growing headcount.
• Run immigration end to end with outside counsel — H-1B transfers, E-3s, green card timelines — and keep employees ahead of their own deadlines.
• Be the first stop for employee questions on benefits, pay, leave, and policy, and handle sensitive issues with discretion and sound judgment.
• Automate the repetitive parts. Town is building tools for people like you, and you'll get to use the most cutting edge, beta-testing versions of these tools - you should be using them on your own workflows. YOU MIGHT THRIVE HERE IF YOU
• Have experience in People Ops or HR at a high-growth startup, ideally with some time as the person building the function (vs just inheriting it)
• Have been responsible for an HRIS and have opinions about how it should be configured.
• Are exceptionally organized and have a bias for automating the behind the scenes, repeatable work to make your and other's lives easier.
• Handle confidential information with total discretion and a steady hand.
• Are in SF and want to be in the office five days a week
