Overview

Aarhus University is recruiting a two-year postdoc to develop and validate advanced models for biomass-pyrolysis plants integrated with CO₂ capture, utilization and Power-to-X systems.

Complete research opportunity details

The researcher will build first-principles and semi-empirical unit-operation models, integrate them into flowsheets, model CCUS and PtX components, run simulation campaigns, calibrate models against experimental and industrial data, develop carbon-dioxide-removal assessment tools, and contribute to scientific publications and a web-based decision-support interface. The position runs from 1 November 2026 to 31 October 2028 and is sponsored by the Just Transition Fund.

Eligibility requirements

Applicants should hold a PhD in chemical, process, mechanical, energy, data or computer engineering or a related field, with strong thermodynamics, transport, process modelling and programming skills. Experience with process simulators or modelling environments such as Aspen, HYSYS, gPROMS, Modelica, Python or Matlab is expected; biomass thermochemical conversion, CCUS/PtX, databases, ML/AI, LCA or carbon-accounting experience is advantageous.
