Full job description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Principal Cloud & Enterprise Architecture Lead based in Australia. This is a senior architecture leadership role focused on designing secure, scalable, and cloud-first technology environments across complex enterprise landscapes. You’ll shape enterprise, solution, and cloud architectures while defining future-state technology roadmaps and reusable design standards. The role spans Azure and AWS, cloud modernization, enterprise integration, identity and security, DevSecOps, data services, and architecture governance. You’ll act as a trusted technical adviser to executives, delivery teams, security stakeholders, and business leaders, translating strategic priorities into practical technology decisions. A strong focus on secure-by-design principles means you’ll help ensure platforms meet demanding security, compliance, resilience, and operational requirements. You’ll also influence multidisciplinary engineering teams through architecture reviews, mentoring, design workshops, and technical guidance. This is an opportunity to shape technology strategy at enterprise scale while remaining close enough to the technical detail to influence how solutions are actually delivered.
Lead the development of enterprise, solution, and cloud architectures across complex technology environments. Produce and govern High-Level Designs (HLDs), Detailed Designs (DLDs), reference architectures, reusable design patterns, and other architecture documentation. Define future-state architectures, technology roadmaps, architecture standards, and governance frameworks. Design secure, resilient Azure and AWS cloud solutions and guide cloud adoption across the enterprise. Lead cloud migration, modernization, and hybrid-cloud initiatives while ensuring alignment with strategic and operational objectives. Define architecture patterns for enterprise platforms, digital services, and data ecosystems. Drive adoption of Infrastructure as Code, cloud automation, and standardized engineering practices. Embed Secure-by-Design and Zero Trust principles across technology solutions. Ensure architecture decisions align with security and compliance frameworks including Essential Eight, ISM, PSPF, NIST, and relevant industry practices. Provide technical leadership across identity and access management, SSO, MFA, OAuth, PKI, API security, and cloud security controls. Partner with cybersecurity and risk teams to address security requirements and technology risks. Define API-first and event-driven integration architectures across enterprise applications, cloud platforms, and external partners. Establish standards for API management, messaging, microservices, and streaming technologies. Champion CI/CD, DevSecOps, automated governance, observability, monitoring, resilience, and operational readiness. Support engineering and delivery teams with architecture guidance, technical reviews, and quality assurance. Engage with executives, business leaders, architects, vendors, security stakeholders, and delivery teams to drive effective technology decisions. Facilitate architecture reviews, technical workshops, and design decisions while mentoring multidisciplinary teams. Requirements: 15+ years of ICT experience, including at least 8 years in architecture leadership roles. Demonstrated experience delivering enterprise and cloud architectures within large, complex, and regulated environments. Strong experience creating architecture artefacts, governance documentation, reference architectures, and technical standards. Deep expertise in Microsoft Azure and strong experience designing solutions using AWS services and architecture patterns. Proven experience with cloud migration, modernization, and hybrid-cloud environments. Strong knowledge of API-first architecture, enterprise integration, and middleware platforms. Experience designing event-driven architectures using Kafka or equivalent technologies. Strong understanding of REST, SOAP, microservices, and modern integration patterns. Experience designing identity and access management solutions and applying Zero Trust principles. Strong knowledge of enterprise security frameworks and government security controls, including application, network, and cloud security architecture. Experience with Azure DevOps, GitHub, Jenkins, or equivalent DevOps tooling. Strong understanding of Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD, automated deployment pipelines, and DevSecOps practices. Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to advise executives and collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders. Ability to provide technical leadership, facilitate architecture decisions, mentor engineers and architects, and operate effectively across multidisciplinary teams. Azure Solutions Architect Expert certification is desirable. TOGAF, SABSA, or an equivalent architecture certification is desirable. Experience within Australian Government, Defence, financial services, or critical infrastructure environments is desirable. Experience delivering AI, analytics, or enterprise data platform solutions is desirable. Ability to work with a high level of autonomy while balancing strategic architecture priorities with practical delivery needs. Benefits: Salary of $220,000–$280,000 plus superannuation, or an equivalent daily contract rate, depending on engagement. Permanent or contract employment options. Remote working arrangement with hybrid opportunities in Canberra, Sydney, or Melbourne. Opportunity to lead enterprise-scale cloud and architecture initiatives. Exposure to Azure, AWS, security architecture, enterprise integration, DevSecOps, and modern data technologies. Senior-level influence across executives, delivery teams, security stakeholders, and multidisciplinary technology teams. Opportunities to shape architecture standards, governance frameworks, and long-term technology roadmaps. High-impact work within complex, regulated technology environments.
