Full job description

Meter’s Firewall product has grown faster than the systems around it. Major vendors still define the enterprise firewall market—your job is to make Meter the next name on that list. In your first year, you’ll bring structure to a fast-growing product surface and put Meter in serious contention against the majors. You’ll partner directly with Sunil Varanasi, Meter’s CTO and cofounder, and own the Firewall product surface end-to-end: organizing what we’ve already built, prioritizing what’s next, and giving Sales Engineering, Customer Operations, and GTM the clarity they need to sell and support with confidence. You’ll start with our most complex systems—the policy engine, the IPS engine, and our BGP implementation—then move fast based on what customers need next. Firewall is one piece of Meter’s vertically integrated stack—routing, SD-WAN, security, wireless, switching, mobile, and power—which is exactly what lets a small team ship high-complexity features fast. Every discussion you have and every decision you make should serve one goal: better outcomes for customers. WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE In your first 6–12 months, you will:

  • Document every existing Firewall feature and order it by complexity, giving Sales Engineering and GTM a reliable resource to sell from.
  • Build a clear, prioritized Firewall roadmap for the next six months, signed off with Sunil by the end of Q1.
  • Become Marketing and Sales Engineering’s go-to PM contact, with a repeatable process for turning customer feature requests into roadmap decisions.
  • Scope, prioritize, and move at least one major Firewall capability into active development within six months, sourced directly from customer and SE input. WHAT YOUR DAY-TO-DAY LOOKS LIKE
  • Working with firewall firmware engineers to design features—policy engine, ACLs, BGP, DNS security—and weigh tradeoffs on protocol behavior, rule evaluation order, and performance.
  • Organizing and prioritizing requests from the support team and triaging bugs surfaced by Quality Engineering (QE).
  • Joining customer QBRs to hear firsthand how they use Meter’s Firewall and where it falls short.
  • Planning the Firewall roadmap with Sunil every week.
  • Learning how the backend (APIs), frontend (Dashboard), and models teams build the layers your product depends on.
  • Working with QE to make sure every release is stable and easy to deploy WHERE THIS ROLE CAN TAKE YOU In year two, you could own product strategy across Meter’s full security surface—Firewall, IPS, and whatever comes next—as the person who defines how Meter competes. The prioritization system, roadmap process, and customer feedback loop you build in year one could become the model other product teams at Meter run on. WHO YOU ARE
  • You’ve built products in enterprise security or networking, and you understand how IT administrators and network engineers manage firewall policy across thousands of devices in live environments.
  • More than domain knowledge, what makes you exceptional is how you work with people: you communicate clearly across technical and nontechnical audiences, and you bring teams into alignment without needing formal authority.
  • You’ve shipped incrementally, learned from imperfect first versions, and kept a team pointed in the same direction even when the problem got messier than expected.
  • You don’t need a fully defined playbook to get started—you see a customer’s need and build for it. COMPENSATION
  • The estimated base salary for this role is between $205,000 – $275,000.
  • Additionally, this role is eligible to participate in Meter's equity plan. -- By applying to this job you acknowledge that you've read and understood Meter's Job Applicant Privacy Notice https://www.meter.com/careers/job-applicant-privacy.
