Role Overview

We are seeking a Protection Application Design Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, configuration, and commissioning of IED protection parameters, communication systems, and automation logic for complex technical projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define and select the appropriate IEDs based on project requirements and protection schemes.
  • Configure and implement LV/MV protection settings.
  • Develop, test, and commission Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) logic.
  • Configure advanced protection relays and develop custom logic functions within IEDs.
  • Participate in Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT).
  • Prepare and implement communication configurations, including CID files for SCADA integration.
  • Configure IEC 61850 communication, GOOSE messaging, and network architecture between connected devices.
  • Perform signal and loop testing with SCADA, EMCS, and switchgear systems.
  • Support site commissioning activities and troubleshoot protection and communication issues.
  • Participate in tendering activities, including effort estimation and manhour calculations.
  • Prepare technical documentation and provide engineering support throughout project execution.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in electrical distribution, energy automation, protection systems, or commissioning.

  • Hands-on experience with protection relays and IEDs from Schneider Electric (VAMP, SEPAM, MICOM, EASERGY, TESYS) and/or other vendors such as ABB, Siemens, or SEL.

  • Strong knowledge of communication protocols including IEC 61850, Modbus, DNP3, and IEC 103.

  • Experience configuring GOOSE messaging, SCD files, and CID files.

  • Familiarity with ANSI/IEEE Standard Device Function Numbers.

  • Experience integrating protection systems with SCADA and EMCS platforms.

  • Knowledge of Ethernet networks and IP-based communication architectures.

  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work on international projects and support on-site commissioning activities when required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in protection studies and relay coordination.
  • Previous exposure to medium-voltage and low-voltage switchgear projects.
  • Knowledge of Schneider Electric EcoStruxure solutions and protection platforms.
  • Experience working in a customer-facing project environment.
