Atom Computing is seeking a Quantum Software Manager to drive innovation at the intersection of scientific research, software development, and integration. In this role, you’ll balance hands-on technical contributions with team leadership to build and support world-class scientific workflows. You’ll work across the full stack—empowering engineers and physicists to deploy software to support ongoing research and development efforts as well as helping to transform prototype software into robust and polished products. The quantum error correction team consists of a mix of mathematicians, experimental and theoretical physicists, and software engineers and this role requires interfacing across a range of backgrounds and skillsets. This role reports to the Director of Quantum Error Correction.
This role is required to be in the office in Berkeley at least 3 days per week.
Lead and mentor a team of approximately 5 software engineers and quantum software engineers.
Support the development of research-oriented software and associated workflows.
Work with physicists and mathematicians to develop production-grade software required for running fault-tolerant quantum computing.
Work closely with Atom Computing’s quantum error correction team to understand use cases and deliver software and developer experiences that address the needs of the team.
BS or MS in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics or related field, PhD is a plus.
Experience leading a small engineering team.
5+ years of post-degree experience as a software engineer.
Proven track record leading teams to develop and deliver complex software
Strong background in software development, including experience with research-oriented scientific software
A high tolerance for uncertainty and ambiguity
Collaborative mindset and experience working on a multidisciplinary team
Experience with quantum computing and quantum error correction are preferred
