Overview

IMC is seeking a Representative Director to hold statutory office for its Korean entity and to lead the operation of the business in Seoul.

Full job description

IMC is seeking a Representative Director to hold statutory office for its Korean entity and to lead the operation of the business in Seoul. The role carries the statutory duties of a Representative Director under the Commercial Act, together with the regulatory obligations attaching to the firm’s licence and to its allocation under the Responsibilities Map regime. It also carries day-to-day accountability for how the Seoul business is run: its controls, its governance, its regulatory relationships and its operational standards. IMC Korea appoints two joint Representative Directors. The second appointee is the firm’s Head of Asia Pacific, based in Sydney. Joint appointment means execution requires both signatures. The structure is deliberate and will remain in place. The successful candidate will hold substantial authority and will exercise it alongside a counterpart rather than independently. This is not a trading role and it does not carry trading profit and loss responsibility. Your Core Responsibilities:  Statutory office. Discharge the duties of a Representative Director under the Commercial Act, including duties owed to the company, and the reporting and filing obligations arising from the appointment. Serve on and chair the board of IMC Korea Securities Co., Ltd. Regulatory accountability. Assume the responsibilities allocated to the Representative Director under the Responsibilities Map following a defined handover period, and maintain the standards of governance and control those responsibilities require. Regulatory relationships. Lead the firm’s engagement with the Financial Services Commission, the Financial Supervisory Service and the Korea Exchange. Manage inspections, reviews and supervisory correspondence, and ensure the firm identifies and raises matters before they become issues. Business oversight. Oversee the operation of the Seoul business and the effectiveness of local control functions across compliance, risk, legal, finance, HR and technology. These functions are organised globally and regionally. The Representative Director is accountable for ensuring the frameworks they provide operate effectively in Korea and meet Korean regulatory requirements. Governance. Manage board and shareholder matters, corporate policies, licence conditions and local statutory obligations for the entity. Escalation. Act as the senior point of decision in Seoul for operational, regulatory and reputational matters, and ensure timely escalation to regional and global leadership. People Leadership. Lead the Seoul team and manage local staff matters, including performance, development and employment obligations arising under Korean law. Your Skills and Experience:  Regulatory standing. Experience as a Representative Director, registered executive or equivalent licensed officer at a financial institution in Korea, or as an adviser to institutions holding those appointments. Candidates must satisfy the eligibility requirements applicable to the appointment. Professional background. A legal or regulatory background is well suited to this role. Relevant experience includes general counsel, head of compliance, chief operating officer or equivalent senior positions at a securities firm, or at a foreign financial institution operating in Korea. Market knowledge. A sound understanding of financial markets and of market making in particular, including its function on an exchange and the operational and regulatory risks it carries. Direct trading experience is not required. International experience. Demonstrated capability operating within an international firm and across a global matrix. Senior colleagues in trading, technology and the control functions are based in Amsterdam, Chicago, Sydney and Hong Kong. The role requires the credibility and initiative to work with them directly. Language. Full professional fluency in Korean and English, written and spoken. The role requires precise communication with Korean regulators and with a global firm headquartered in the Netherlands. Judgement and accountability. Comfort holding personal statutory liability, and the judgement to exercise authority soundly under a joint signing structure.   About Us IMC is a research-driven trading firm where quantitative modeling, machine learning, and engineering shape how modern markets are traded. A stabilizing force in markets since 1989, we provide liquidity across trading venues, delivering the best outcome in value and risk management to investors. Using our own technology and capital, we build proprietary systems and algorithms that operate across global markets. Our researchers, traders, and engineers work as a collective, combining rapid experimentation, advanced infrastructure, and real-time feedback to turn insight into execution and execution into advantage.
