Conquer Cancer®, the ASCO Foundation, is accepting applications for the International Innovation Grant (IIG) to support innovative cancer research projects that can significantly improve cancer control in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).

The grant supports hypothesis-driven research projects that generate new knowledge on advancing cancer control in low- and middle-income settings. Projects should propose novel and innovative approaches with the potential to reduce the cancer burden in local communities while producing findings that can be adapted or transferred to other LMIC settings. Grant recipients are expected to disseminate the knowledge generated through their research.

The International Innovation Grant provides up to $20,000 for a one-year research project. Grant funds are awarded directly to the eligible organisation and may only be used for approved project costs. Funding is paid in two instalments, with the second instalment contingent upon satisfactory mid-year progress and submission of the required technical and financial reports. The grant period runs from 1 April 2027 to 1 April 2028.

Applications are reviewed by an independent Grants Selection Committee using consistent evaluation criteria. Eligible Letters of Intent are assessed before selected applicants are invited to submit full proposals. Funding decisions are based on application scores, with the highest-ranked proposals receiving awards. Principal Investigators are responsible for submitting research progress reports at six months, at the end of the grant period, and one year after project completion, as well as financial reports after six months and at the conclusion of the grant.

Applications must be submitted by a registered not-for-profit organisation with a charitable purpose, such as a medical society, association, advocacy organisation, foundation, hospital, university, or government agency, located in a country classified by the World Bank as low-income, lower-middle-income, or upper-middle-income. Applicant organisations must have operated for at least one year, demonstrate sound management and financial capacity, and have experience delivering activities with tangible outcomes. Each application must designate a Principal Investigator who is a current ASCO member, or has submitted an ASCO membership application, is affiliated with the applicant organisation, and is a citizen or permanent resident currently residing in an eligible LMIC. Applications must be submitted in English through the online application portal. The programme uses a two-stage application process consisting of a Letter of Intent followed by a full proposal for invited applicants.
