Role Description We are seeking a creative, hands-on Research Engineer with a strong electrical engineering foundation to join our R&D team and solve challenging sensing and measurement problems with real-world impact. You will combine physics, experimentation, and data analysis to understand how our grid sensor signals behave in the real world, identify opportunities to improve sensing performance, and develop new sensing capabilities. This role focuses on measurement and applied research rather than traditional product design.
Investigate sensor signals to understand physical phenomena, identify performance limitations, and root-cause measurement issues.
Help define measurement requirements and evaluate sensors for current and new sensing capabilities.
Design and run experiments to characterize sensor performance and validate new approaches.
Analyze experimental and fleet data using Python, MATLAB, SQL, or similar tools.
Improve how we capture useful signal information on constrained edge devices through sampling, filtering, compression, and related techniques.
Partner with HW, FW, ML, and product teams to translate research findings into improvements to our technology.
MS in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field with 2+ years of relevant industry experience, or PhD with relevant research or industry experience.
Strong fundamentals in electromagnetics, sensing, and electrical measurement.
Experience investigating ambiguous sensing, signal-quality, or measurement problems through data analysis and experimentation.
Comfortable using Python, MATLAB, or similar tools to analyze scientific or engineering data.
Hands-on experience collecting and interpreting electrical measurements using lab instrumentation such as oscilloscopes and DAQs.
Strong technical judgment, communication, and ability to work across disciplines.
Experience with signal processing, including sampling, filtering, or compression.
Experience with circuit simulation or first-principles modeling.
Experience building repeatable test and validation infrastructure.
Experience analyzing sensor performance across deployed IoT or edge devices.
