Research Ireland's Frontiers for the Future Awards Stream remains open on a rolling basis for independent investigators proposing innovative, collaborative research with potential economic and societal impact.

The current Awards Stream supports four- to five-year programmes with €600,000–€1.5 million in direct costs. It is designed for excellent investigator-led research, including high-risk/high-reward work and collaborations, and offers an Emerging Investigator review category for eligible researchers. Applications are submitted through SESAME.
Eligibility requirements
Applicants must be independent researchers hosted by an eligible Research Body, have held a PhD or equivalent for at least three years by submission, and normally demonstrate senior authorship on at least three international peer-reviewed articles. Postdoctoral researchers are not eligible to apply as lead applicants. Lead/Co-Applicant salary is not an eligible programme cost, and requests above €1 million require advance approval.
