We are building a global network of phased array ground stations that enable real-time, reliable communication for satellite missions such as national security, global connectivity, and disaster response. With a vertically integrated approach, Northwood designs, builds, and rapidly deploys scalable systems that power the next generation of space missions. Role: Northwood Space is seeking an enthusiastic RF Engineering Intern for Summer 2027 to join our team in Torrance. As an intern, you’ll assist in designing the next generation of ground stations and support the RF team’s efforts in optimizing performance, reliability, and manufacturability. You’ll gain hands-on experience working alongside electrical, RF, mechanical, manufacturing, and software engineers, contributing to the development process from concept to production. Responsibilities:

  • Support the design and development of new RF hardware, as well as improvements to existing designs for enhanced performance and reliability
  • Assist in the fabrication and characterization of prototypes for antennas, feeds, and active RF circuits
  • Work closely with hardware and software engineers to test and troubleshoot integrated RF performance
  • Provide technical support to colleagues in regulatory and site operations Minimum Qualifications:
  • Currently pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • Basic knowledge of transmission line theory and use of the smith chart
  • Experience in Python or another language for data analysis
  • 1+ year experience in antenna, RF, or electrical design, fabrication, and test including lab work and university projects Preferred Skills and Experience:
  • Experience with PCB design in a tool such as Altium
  • Experience working closely with mechanical and manufacturing engineers in translating analyzed design to machinable components
  • Familiarity with RF test equipment, such as network analyzers and spectrum analyzers, including how they work
  • Experience analyzing antenna systems in the lab (s-parameters, isolation, radiation patterns, propagation effects, etc)
  • Familiarity with 3D EM simulation tools such as CST, HFSS, ADS, FEKO, Microwave Office, etc. Additional Information: If you need a reasonable accommodation as part of your application for employment or interviews with us, please let us know.
