The RGC Junior Research Fellow Scheme 2027/28 supports promising local and non-local early-career researchers for full-time postdoctoral research at Hong Kong's UGC-funded universities through institutional nomination.

The 2027/28 call is open. RGC plans 60 awards for 24 months, with an optional postdoctoral extension of up to 12 months. The prevailing annual stipend is about HK$430,000, including around HK$13,600 for conference and research-related travel. If an awardee advances to an eligible junior research academic role, research support funding of HK$140,000 per year may apply instead for the remaining fellowship period.
Eligibility requirements
Nominees must have the legal right to work and reside in Hong Kong during the fellowship, have received a PhD or equivalent on or after 1 January 2023 or complete the PhD requirements by 31 August 2027, and be supported by a UGC-funded university. Each university may nominate up to 15 candidates. Both local and non-local researchers are eligible.
