The Royal Society's current International Exchanges round supports UK-based scientists building new collaborations with researchers overseas through short visits or bilateral exchanges.

Global Round 3 and the JSPS/NSTC Cost Share Round 3 opened 30 July 2026 and close 24 September 2026. Global-round support is up to £3,000 for a one-off visit of up to three months, up to £6,000 for multiple visits within one year, or up to £12,000 for multiple visits within two years. Cost-share awards can provide up to £12,000 from the Royal Society plus up to £12,000 equivalent from the overseas partner funder. Funding can cover travel, subsistence and research expenses.
Eligibility requirements
The UK applicant must have a PhD or equivalent research experience, hold a fixed or permanent contract at an eligible organization for the project duration, and work within the Royal Society's natural-sciences remit. The collaboration must be a new project between the UK applicant and an overseas collaborator. Cost-share routes also require the overseas partner to apply to the relevant partner funder.
