Overview

A short UK academia–industry mobility fellowship supporting collaborative natural-sciences projects between eligible researchers in universities or not-for-profit research organisations and private industry.

Complete fellowship details

Round 2 opened 12 August 2026 and closes 7 October 2026. Awards may be held full time for three to six months, or at 50% part time for up to 12 months. Funding can cover the applicant's and/or a nominated postdoctoral researcher's basic salary during the secondment, while the employing organisation continues national insurance and pension contributions, plus research expenses up to £1,000. The scheme supports mobility between UK academia/not-for-profit research organisations and UK private industry and is intended to seed stronger long-term collaboration and knowledge exchange.

Eligibility requirements

Main applicants must hold a PhD or be of equivalent professional standing and hold a permanent or fixed-term post extending beyond the expected fellowship end date in a UK university, eligible not-for-profit research organisation or UK industry. The proposed research must fall within the Royal Society natural-sciences remit. Royal Society-funded University Research Fellowship and Dorothy Hodgkin Fellowship holders are not eligible for this scheme. A postdoctoral researcher may be nominated to work on the collaborative project, but postdoctoral researchers are not eligible to apply as the main applicant. Self-employed consultants are not eligible as the industrial partner.

Tips for this fellowship

Practical Job and Scholarship guidance. These tips do not replace official rules or create new eligibility requirements.

  1. Check eligibility, funding coverage, study/project level and every required document before investing time in the application.
  2. Prepare transcripts, references, language tests, proposal/motivation statement and proof documents early.
  3. Separate the scholarship deadline from any university/program admission deadline; they may be different.
  4. Treat “fully funded” as a source fact only when the official provider explicitly confirms the covered costs.

Verification notes

Re-verified against the current Royal Society Short Industry Fellowship page on 2 September 2026. The page shows 2026 Round 2 open from 12 August 2026 and closing 7 October 2026. The checked page does not state a closing clock time, so only deadline_date is stored. This append-only revision also corrects the prior record's impossible verification chronology, where verified_at was four seconds later than the commit that already contained it. Funding and eligibility fields remain limited to terms stated by the Royal Society.
