Faculty for the Future supports eligible women from low- and middle-income countries pursuing PhD or postdoctoral STEM research at recognized host institutions abroad.
Complete fellowship details
New applications for the 2027–2028 Faculty for the Future fellowships open on 1 September 2026. Grants are based on eligible costs and can be up to US$50,000 per year for PhD study and up to US$40,000 per year for postdoctoral research. Renewal is not automatic and is subject to academic progress, references and the Foundation's renewal process.
Eligibility requirements
Applicants must be women who are citizens of an eligible low- or middle-income country where women are underrepresented in STEM, and must not hold dual citizenship that includes citizenship of a developed country under the Foundation's rules. Applicants must be preparing for a PhD or postdoctoral research in a STEM discipline, have enrolled, been admitted, or applied to a recognized host university or research institute abroad, have an excellent academic record, and demonstrate commitment to return to their home country or region, leadership, community outreach and encouragement of women and girls in STEM. Master's study is not funded.

- Prepare transcripts, references, language tests, proposal/motivation statement and proof documents early.
- Separate the scholarship deadline from any university/program admission deadline; they may be different.
- Treat “fully funded” as a source fact only when the official provider explicitly confirms the covered costs.

An older cached official page still showed 6 November; this record follows the fresher live applicant-facing page and records a date-only deadline because no closing time is stated.
