You'll work closely with product managers, designers, and other engineers to shape features from idea to production, building the financial primitives that power businesses. This is a hands-on role for engineers who care deeply about what they build and why they build it. For the right candidate, it's a rare chance to leave a lasting mark on an industry-defining product. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Own features end-to-end: from product design and API contracts through implementation, testing, and deployment.
• Collaborate directly with product and design to define requirements, push back when needed, and help make smart tradeoffs between speed, quality, and scope.
• Build reliable, well-crafted backend services that power Unit's Banking, Payments, and Cards products.
• Write APIs and backend logic that developers love to use: with a focus on clarity, correctness, and a great developer experience.
• Contribute to architectural decisions and help raise the engineering bar across the team. WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
• 5+ years of backend development experience, ideally in a product-driven environment where you've owned features
• A product mindset: you ask "why are we building this?" and you care about the customer experience, not just the technical implementation.
• Comfort working across the full backend lifecycle: design, implementation, testing, deployment, and on-call ownership.
• Experience building and maintaining reliable systems in cloud environments (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
• Solid understanding of distributed systems concepts: consistency, availability, failure modes, and observability.
• Experience with CI/CD and modern deployment practices.
• Fintech, payments, or developer-platform experience is a strong plus.
• Production experience with Kubernetes — advantage.
• Experience with Scala, ZIO, Cats, or functional programming — advantage.
