Deliver Great Outcomes.  About the role As a Senior Data Analyst, you will design, build, and own the analytics that ShipStation Global’s business teams use to make decisions. This role sits between the data platform built by data engineering and the business and is responsible for performing data discovery, defining and governing metrics, and analysis activities to identify specific information required to support client decisions and then present these results in a meaningful and intuitive format, using a variety of BI tools and techniques. The ideal candidate is highly analytical, genuinely curious about how the business operates, and comfortable working through ambiguity — able to sit down with a stakeholder, ask the questions that surface the real decision behind the request, define the problem, and then engineer a durable solution. Equally important is the judgment to push back when what was asked for is not what is actually needed, and the communication skills to explain why. This position is hybrid (3 days per week in office)  and is located in Austin or Dallas, Texas. About the team The Senior Data Analyst designs, builds, and owns the analytics that ShipStation Global’s business teams use to make decisions. This role sits between the data platform built by data engineering and the business and is responsible for performing data discovery, defining and governing metrics, and analysis activities to identify specific information required to support client decisions and then present these results in a meaningful and intuitive format, using a variety of BI tools and techniques. Equally important is the judgment to push back when what was asked for is not what is actually needed, and the communication skills to explain why. What will you be doing? Partner directly with business stakeholders to turn ambiguous requests into well-defined analytics deliverables. Lead discovery conversations with Finance, Accounting, Sales, Marketing, and Product to uncover the underlying decision or business problem behind each request. Translate open-ended asks into documented requirements: metric definitions, grain, dimensionality, filters, refresh cadence, and clear acceptance criteria. Challenge assumptions and propose better framing when the requested output would not actually answer the question being asked. Design, build, and maintain analytics data models. Develop modular, tested, version-controlled transformation models in dbt on BigQuery — and on Databricks as the ShipStation Global platform expands — following layered staging, intermediate, and mart patterns. Write advanced SQL: window functions, incremental logic, complex joins, and query tuning through partitioning, clustering, and cost-aware design. Implement data quality controls such as dbt tests, source freshness checks, and anomaly monitoring so that breakages are caught before stakeholders find them. Work in Git with pull-request review and CI/CD, treating analytics code as production software. Own the semantic layer and BI delivery. Develop and maintain LookML views, explores, derived tables, and reusable measures so that each metric is defined once and reported consistently everywhere. Build and maintain Looker dashboards, Looks, schedules, and alerts; develop Power BI semantic models, DAX measures, and reports as the ShipStation Global reporting stack consolidates between data & reporting platforms. Optimize dashboard performance and query cost; manage content organization, folder structure, and row-level access controls. Enable self-service by documenting metric definitions, training stakeholders, and building durable assets that reduce recurring ad hoc requests. Deliver analysis and insight, not just reports. Perform exploratory and root-cause analysis to explain what is driving movement in sales volume, revenue, margin, customer retention, and operational performance. Reconcile analytics output against source systems and finance reporting, investigating discrepancies and explaining them clearly. Write up findings, caveats, and recommendations in plain language for a non-technical executive audience. Support platform modernization and post-merger integration. Contribute to migrating, rationalizing, and consolidating reporting assets as ShipStation Global standardizes its data and BI stack across GCP and BigQuery, Databricks, Looker, and Power BI. Automate recurring manual reporting using Python and scheduled orchestration. Maintain documentation, standards, and data governance. Document models, metric definitions, and data lineage in dbt docs and Confluence so that institutional knowledge does not live in a single person’s head. Follow and help improve team standards for naming, testing, code review, and release management. Handle sensitive customer, financial, and employee data in accordance with company security and privacy policy. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Analytics, Engineering, Statistics, Economics, or a related quantitative field; equivalent hands-on experience will be considered in lieu of a degree. 5+ years of experience building business intelligence and analytics solutions on a cloud data platform. 3+ years of advanced SQL in a production analytics environment. 3+ years of hands-on dbt experience building and maintaining production models. 3+ years of dashboard and report development in a modern BI tool; Looker and LookML strongly preferred. Demonstrated experience gathering requirements directly from business stakeholders with limited direction or supervision. Working experience with Google Cloud Platform, particularly BigQuery. Proficiency with Python and with Git-based development workflows. What will make you stand out? Advanced SQL, including complex analytical queries, window functions, and performance and cost optimization against columnar cloud warehouses. Hands-on analytics engineering with dbt: modular models, tests, macros, snapshots, documentation, and deployment through CI/CD. Working depth in at least one modern cloud data warehouse or lakehouse — BigQuery, Databricks, or equivalent — including partitioning, clustering, incremental strategies, and cost management. Semantic layer development in LookML or an equivalent metrics modeling layer. Dashboard and report development in a modern BI platform such as Looker, Power BI, or Tableau, with a strong grasp of visualization and information design principles. Python for automation, data manipulation, and API integration. Adept at using AI tools such as Claude Code, Gemini Enterprise, Replit, etc Git-based version control and collaborative code review. The ability to operate effectively without fully specified requirements: define the problem, scope the work, state assumptions, and communicate trade-offs. Excellent written and verbal communication, including the ability to explain a metric definition or an analytical caveat to a non-technical audience. Genuine business curiosity and a willingness to learn how shipping, logistics, and subscription revenue actually work by digging into source systems and talking to the people who run the business. Strong ownership and follow-through, with the ability to manage multiple concurrent stakeholders and shifting priorities. The Tech Databricks experience such as Unity Catalog, Delta Lake, SQL Warehouses, or PySpark. Power BI experience including semantic models, DAX, Power Query, workspaces, and deployment pipelines. Experience supporting Finance and Accounting analytics, such as revenue, billing, and margin reconciliation. Industry background in logistics, transportation, e-commerce, or SaaS. Experience working through a post-merger systems integration or a BI platform migration. Experience with orchestration tooling such as Cloud Composer, Airflow, Dagster, or dbt Cloud. Familiarity with Jira and Confluence for request intake and documentation. Practical experience applying AI and LLM tooling to accelerate analytics development.
