Senior Data Center Technician – Copper

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Data Center Technician – Copper based in the United States. This is a hands-on data center infrastructure role focused on copper cabling, rack-and-stack activities, physical-layer deployment, and technical remediation. You’ll support enterprise, colocation, hyperscale, AI/HPC, construction, and operational data center environments across a wide range of customer sites. The role combines installation, troubleshooting, smart-hands support, documentation, and quality control to keep critical infrastructure reliable and well organized. You’ll work from detailed cable schedules, rack elevations, port maps, drawings, and runbooks while maintaining high standards for workmanship, safety, and accuracy. The position offers significant field exposure, requiring frequent travel and the flexibility to support different environments, project standards, and deployment schedules. You’ll work alongside field teams, engineers, customers, subcontractors, and project stakeholders to resolve issues and deliver production-ready infrastructure. Install, test, troubleshoot, maintain, route, dress, label, and connect copper cabling while ensuring correct source, destination, port assignment, connector type, routing, slack, and bend radius. Perform rack-and-stack activities across standard, high-density, and AI-compute cabinets, including installation of servers, switches, storage equipment, patch panels, cable managers, support hardware, and related infrastructure. Install management and console cables, power cords, interconnects, optics, and other supporting components while following project-specific standards and technical documentation. Execute structured cabling remediation, cabinet cleanup, defect correction, rework, and punch-list activities while maintaining high standards for quality and organization. Provide smart-hands support to remote engineering and support teams, including physical verification, connection changes, component replacement, and device information capture. Replace damaged cables, labels, optics, transceivers, hardware, and field-replaceable components as directed. Capture and maintain accurate installation records, including serial numbers, asset tags, MAC addresses, photographs, issue notes, project trackers, checklists, redlines, and timekeeping information. Inspect completed work for visible defects and proactively report blockers, damaged equipment, missing materials, drawing conflicts, site issues, and safety concerns. Maintain clean and organized cabinets, pathways, workstations, staging areas, and project zones while protecting customer equipment, floors, ports, optics, and infrastructure. Communicate professionally with technical leads, customers, superintendents, subcontractors, engineers, and other project stakeholders while following site-specific standards and safety requirements. Complete required security awareness training, comply with applicable policies and procedures, identify potential security risks, and escalate concerns through the appropriate channels. Requirements: At least 2 years of experience in data center operations, telecommunications, low-voltage installation, structured cabling, network deployment, or a related field. Demonstrated hands-on experience installing copper cabling, with experience working with fiber-optic cabling considered valuable. Experience mounting and installing servers, switches, storage equipment, patch panels, cable managers, and other equipment within data cabinets. Ability to independently follow detailed technical instructions, cable schedules, rack elevations, port maps, drawings, labels, and runbooks after being trained on project standards. Strong understanding of cable routing, dressing, labeling, connection, inspection, and physical-layer quality requirements. Strong attention to detail with a consistent focus on workmanship, documentation, cleanliness, safety, and accuracy. Ability to accurately document completed work, capture required closeout information, and work independently as part of a traveling field team. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify defects, investigate issues, and escalate blockers appropriately. Clear communication and a collaborative mindset when working with remote engineers, field leads, customers, subcontractors, and other stakeholders. Valid driver's license and ability to satisfy applicable travel, background, drug, safety, and site-access screening requirements. Willingness and ability to travel approximately 75%–90% nationwide, including frequent overnight and extended assignments. Flexibility to work days, nights, weekends, holidays, extended shifts, deployment windows, and 10–12-hour shifts as project requirements dictate. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, assist with heavier team lifts, and stand or walk for extended periods. Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, reach, climb ladders, work inside cabinets, and perform repetitive cabling and equipment installation tasks in active data center environments while wearing required PPE. Benefits: Base salary range of $83,300–$99,840 for positions based in New York City, with compensation in other locations varying by geography. Additional opportunities for bonus and/or commission. Salaried, non-exempt status with eligibility for overtime pay at one and one-half times the regular rate for hours worked over 40 in a workweek, where applicable by law.
