Senior Data Engineer - Microsoft Fabric

About the Role  We are seeking a Senior Fabric Engineer with strong experience in Azure Data Factory (ADF), Microsoft Fabric, OneLake, and SQL Server to support a modernization initiative that transitions an established data integration estate to Microsoft Fabric and Fabric Link. You will design and implement scalable data pipelines that bring together ERP (Dynamics 365 / Dynamics AX), financial systems, sales and marketing sources, and external APIs, enabling trusted, unified data delivery for enterprise reporting, analytics, and operational insight in Power BI.  This is a contributor role, not a task-execution role. The team already has people who deliver what they are handed; what it needs is engineers who question whether the right thing is being built and say so. You will have direct access to stakeholders, room to shape the target architecture, and the expectation that you will use both.    What You Will Do  Data Pipeline Design and Development  Build, optimize, and maintain ETL/ELT workflows using ADF, SQL Server Integration  Services (SSIS), and Azure Functions.  Migrate pipelines and orchestration layers toward Microsoft Fabric, Fabric Link, and  OneLake.  Integrate structured and unstructured sources, including SaaS APIs, Dynamics 365,  Dynamics AX, marketing and sales platforms, and financial systems.  Data Modeling and Architecture  Design and validate semantic models for Power BI and Fabric-based reporting. • Implement data quality, lineage, metadata, and governance processes aligned with  enterprise standards.  Data Operations  Performance-tune SQL Server databases and Fabric workloads.  Troubleshoot pipeline failures and proactively improve resiliency and observability. Collaboration  Partner with reporting analysts, business stakeholders, data scientists, and application  engineering teams to deliver well-structured, analytics-ready datasets.  Support cross-functional projects linking sales, marketing, and financial data into unified  business views.  What Success Looks Like  Reliable data flows are established that reduce manual processing.  Enriched, trusted datasets improve the analytic value of Power BI.  Fabric adoption accelerates through automation and migration best practices. • Data from manufacturing, finance, sales, and marketing is bridged into unified business  insight.    What You Bring  Education  Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field — or equivalent practical experience.  Experience  5+ years in data engineering roles with production implementation experience in an Agile environment.  Microsoft Fabric experience, including Fabric Link, OneLake lakehouse concepts, and medallion architecture patterns.  Experience with ERP and B2B transaction datasets, specifically Microsoft Dynamics 365 and Dynamics AX.  Strong understanding of data warehousing concepts: star schemas, slowly changing dimensions, partitioning, and data quality approaches. Technical Expertise  Azure Data Factory (ADF) — pipelines, triggers, and integration runtimes. • SQL Server and T-SQL — stored procedures, optimization, and replication. • SSIS — package development and modernization.  REST API and JSON integrations for ingestion and synchronization.  Power BI data modeling — datasets, DAX, and semantic layers.  Azure DevOps for CI/CD pipeline deployment.  Python or .NET for automation and integration tasks.  Familiarity with marketing automation data domains and campaign analytics.   Mindset and Approach  Holds a point of view and states it, including to senior stakeholders and including after a decision has been made when new evidence warrants reopening it.  Asks why a process, data model, or reporting standard exists before extending it, rather than replicating an incumbent pattern simply because it is the incumbent pattern. Surfaces risk, ambiguity, and weak requirements at the moment they are noticed — not at the sprint review, and not at go-live.  Works past the assigned ticket proposes better approaches, improves what sits around the work, and leaves the team’s practice stronger than it was found.  Argues from evidence and changes position on evidence.
