About the Role

As a Senior Data Visualisation Engineer, you will sit at the dynamic intersection of data engineering, product design, and editorial storytelling to unlock actionable insights from complex global trade, commodity, and maritime datasets. Operating with high autonomy, you will push the boundaries of visual communication, transforming intricate data streams into intuitive, beautiful interactive experiences and visual narratives. In this role, your work will directly empower market participants worldwide to extract immediate, strategic value from Kpler’s industry-leading intelligence.

Discover and pitch data-driven narratives: Proactively interrogate complex commodity, maritime, and geopolitical datasets to uncover compelling, commercially relevant stories without waiting for explicit briefs . Deliver end-to-end visual stories: Translate intricate quantitative findings into clear, engaging visual narratives across interactive, static, and animated formats . Validate and query complex data: Independently analyze, manipulate, and validate multi-layered datasets using SQL and Python, standing behind published analysis with complete accuracy . Prototype cutting-edge interactive tools: Build modern interactive data experiences using contemporary web technologies (JavaScript/TypeScript) and AI-assisted engineering workflows . Drive cross-functional alignment: Collaborate closely with product managers, data engineers, market analysts, and product designers from initial hypothesis through final publication . Elevate organizational visualization standards: Establish best practices, refine workflows, and mentor peers across the business to raise the bar for data storytelling across Kpler .

7–10 years of experience in data journalism, information design, visual storytelling, or a closely related quantitative field . Proven ability to independently query, interrogate, and validate complex datasets (using SQL, Python, or similar tools) and defend published insights confidently . Strong spatial analysis skills and proficiency with GIS technologies to analyse location-based data and spatial relationships . Technical proficiency with modern web technologies (JavaScript/TypeScript and contemporary front-end frameworks) alongside an enthusiasm for AI-assisted development workflows . Exceptional visual communication skills and a strong portfolio demonstrating clear editorial judgement and narrative structure across data-driven projects . Nice-to-haves: Degree/MSc in Locational Analytics, Design, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related discipline . Existing interest in or familiarity with global commodities, energy markets, trading, or maritime transportation . Strong desire to experiment with AI tools and continuously iterate on novel design and engineering workflows
