In the role of Senior Design Team Lead (Electrical), you will provide strategic leadership, technical expertise, and operational oversight for the electrical design team. You will lead the development and delivery of complex electrical systems across multidisciplinary projects while ensuring the highest standards of quality, innovation, and project performance.

Key responsibilities include\:

  • Lead and manage electrical design teams across multiple projects, providing technical direction, mentoring, and performance oversight.
  • Serve as the primary electrical design lead, coordinating closely with project managers, engineers, architects, digital delivery teams, and other discipline leaders.
  • Direct the planning, execution, and delivery of electrical design packages, ensuring alignment with project scope, schedule, budget, and quality objectives.
  • Oversee the design and coordination of power distribution, lighting, grounding, low-voltage systems, communications, life safety systems, and other building electrical infrastructure.
  • Review and approve design calculations, technical reports, specifications, drawings, and construction documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance with applicable codes and standards.
  • Lead multidisciplinary coordination efforts, identifying and resolving technical conflicts between electrical, mechanical, structural, architectural, and specialty systems.
  • Establish and maintain electrical design standards, workflows, and best practices to improve consistency, efficiency, and quality across projects.
  • Guide the integration of BIM and digital delivery processes within electrical design workflows, supporting model quality, coordination, and project execution.
  • Support project pursuits by contributing technical expertise, proposal development, client presentations, and scope definition activities.
  • Collaborate with clients, contractors, authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs), and external stakeholders to resolve project challenges and facilitate successful outcomes.
  • Monitor project performance, resource allocation, and team workloads to ensure effective delivery and client satisfaction.
  • Provide technical leadership during construction administration activities, including reviewing submittals, responding to RFIs, conducting site visits, and supporting commissioning activities.
  • Champion continuous improvement, innovation, and adoption of emerging technologies within electrical engineering and digital design practices.
  • Mentor and develop junior and mid-level engineers, designers, and technicians, fostering technical growth, leadership capability, and professional development.
  • Ensure all deliverables meet HDR quality requirements, client expectations, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive electrical design experience, including demonstrated leadership and project delivery responsibilities.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical engineering principles, power systems, lighting design, building systems integration, and construction methodologies.
  • Proven experience leading electrical design efforts for complex building, industrial, transportation, water, healthcare, mission-critical, or infrastructure projects.
  • Advanced proficiency with industry-standard electrical design software and BIM platforms.
  • Strong understanding of applicable electrical codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary coordination and resolving complex technical challenges.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and project management capabilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining exceptional quality and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and project collaboration platforms.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain licensure.
  • Experience managing and leading large, geographically diverse design teams.
  • Advanced experience with BIM, digital delivery workflows, model coordination, and design automation tools.
  • Familiarity with sustainable design practices, energy-efficient systems, and decarbonization strategies.
  • Experience supporting business development activities and client relationship management.
  • Knowledge of emerging technologies, including smart buildings, digital twins, and advanced electrical system analytics.
