Senior Director, Government & Multilateral Affairs

Our partner is looking for a Senior Director, Government & Multilateral Affairs based in the United States. As Senior Director, Government & Multilateral Affairs, you will shape global strategies that strengthen the teaching workforce and create more supportive policy environments for education systems. You’ll build and lead coalitions spanning governments, multilateral institutions, philanthropy, research, and civil society. The role combines high-level external engagement with practical advisory support for organizations working in diverse national contexts. You’ll translate global policy opportunities, partnerships, and funding mechanisms into tangible value for local partners. You’ll also contribute thought leadership, learning, and tools around teacher workforce development and systems change. Working across regions and time zones, you’ll collaborate with global and regional teams in a fast-paced, highly networked environment. The role is fully remote, with up to 20% travel and occasional early or late calls required to support international collaboration.

Lead the global strategy for teacher workforce development, building coalitions across governments, multilateral organizations, philanthropic institutions, researchers, and civil society. Develop strategic relationships and partnerships that advance policy frameworks and collective action supporting a stronger and more sustainable teaching profession. Advise network partners on government engagement strategies, public-sector relationships, and approaches to strengthening enabling policy environments. Help partners identify and access public and multilateral funding opportunities that can support organizational sustainability and education-system impact. Support partners in expanding opportunities to place fellows and engage with education systems within their respective national and regional contexts. Generate, synthesize, and share practical learning, evidence, and tools that strengthen public-sector engagement across the network. Represent the organization in relevant global and regional conversations, contributing thought leadership on teacher workforce development, education policy, and systems change. Facilitate cross-sector conversations and convenings, bringing together stakeholders with diverse perspectives, expertise, and interests. Work closely with regional support teams and global learning teams to coordinate effective support for partners and translate global opportunities into local impact. Navigate complex political, institutional, and operational environments while maintaining strategic alignment across a global network. Requirements: 12+ years of professional experience in government relations, public administration, development, international affairs, or a closely related field. Demonstrated experience working with or within government institutions, multilateral organizations, development organizations, or donor institutions . Proven experience supporting or leading grassroots and locally led organizations in developing public-sector engagement strategies , particularly in ASEAN contexts. Strong understanding of policymaking, development financing, and government systems , with particular knowledge of education systems and developing-country contexts. Exceptional relationship-building, facilitation, coaching, and stakeholder-management skills across cultures and organizational environments. Strong strategic thinking and the ability to operate effectively in complex political and operational settings. Experience building and managing diverse coalitions and translating high-level partnerships into practical outcomes. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to develop compelling thought leadership and communicate with senior stakeholders. Comfort working independently and collaboratively within a global, distributed, and fast-paced environment . Professional fluency in English is required; proficiency in additional languages is strongly preferred. Willingness and ability to work across multiple time zones, including occasional early-morning or evening calls.
