Full job description
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior GIS Developer based in United States. The Senior GIS Developer will build and support GIS solutions that enable complex business and network operations. The role combines advanced GIS expertise with strong software-development and automation capabilities. You will work across QGIS, ArcGIS, enterprise databases, web technologies, and spatial data systems. Your work will support mapping, network analysis, data management, and operational workflows at scale. You will also contribute to GIS architecture, standards, system integrations, and innovative tooling. The position offers an opportunity to collaborate within an Agile/Scrum environment on highly impactful geospatial solutions. Strong technical judgment, analytical thinking, and attention to data quality will be essential to success.
Design, develop, and support server-based geoprocessing tools and automated data-update processes using Python and SQL, helping streamline recurring GIS operations and improve data reliability. Build, deploy, maintain, and enhance custom QGIS plugins and forms using Python, PyQGIS, and Qt-based interfaces to support data acquisition, editing, validation, geoprocessing, and integration with other systems. Partner with GIS engineering leadership to advance custom GIS tools, system integrations, and solution architecture, while contributing to architecture diagrams and technical design decisions. Design and implement organization-wide GIS standards across server, cloud, web, desktop, and enterprise database environments to promote consistency, scalability, and maintainability. Build and maintain FME Flow or Python-based ETL and scheduled data-processing workflows that automate mapping, data management, and recurring GIS activities. Develop and maintain network-routing solutions using shortest-path algorithms while accounting for complex dependencies, constraints, spatial relationships, and business requirements. Produce technical documentation, coding standards, workflow guidance, and training materials, while supporting knowledge transfer through demonstrations and remote training sessions. Contribute throughout the software-development lifecycle within an Agile/Scrum team, collaborating with technical and business stakeholders to deliver reliable GIS capabilities. Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Geography, GIS, Computer Science, or a closely related discipline, supported by a strong understanding of geographic concepts and principles, along with 5–7 years of relevant GIS and software-development experience. Advanced Python skills applied to GIS automation, geoprocessing, ArcGIS web applications, REST services, and network-analysis workflows, with strong SQL and relational database experience, preferably including PostgreSQL/PostGIS. Strong knowledge of Esri ArcGIS technologies, including desktop, online, server, enterprise databases, vector data, geoprocessing, and spatial-analysis capabilities, combined with hands-on QGIS and PyQGIS experience. Practical experience creating QGIS plugins, custom processing tools, forms, or workflow extensions, as well as experience with FME-based or Python-driven ETL and automated processing workflows. Strong web-development capabilities using JavaScript, HTML, and CSS, with experience working with ArcGIS JavaScript APIs, Web AppBuilder, ArcGIS Server services, REST APIs, and other integration technologies. Solid understanding of software-development lifecycle practices, source control, testing, debugging, maintainable code design, algorithms, data structures, data modeling, and distributed systems, particularly as applied to spatial and network problems. Strong knowledge of vector data, geoprocessing, spatial analysis, coordinate systems, topology, and network-routing concepts, supported by excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities. Experience designing or consuming APIs and integrating GIS platforms with external business or operational systems, with strong attention to accuracy, data quality, and technical detail. Experience in telecommunications, outside plant (OSP), fiber network inventory, route planning, network design, or other comparable network-oriented environments is highly valuable. Demonstrated ability to lead user training, develop technical process documentation, support GIS users across multiple teams, and communicate complex technical concepts effectively. Benefits Estimated annual base salary of $95,100–$146,300 USD , with actual compensation determined by factors such as geographic location, experience, skills, certifications, and organizational needs. Potential eligibility for a discretionary annual incentive plan for non-sales roles. Excellent health, dental, and vision insurance. Retirement savings through a 401(k) plan . Generous paid time off, including paid parental leave. Remote work opportunity within the United States. Opportunity to work on large-scale GIS, network, spatial-data, automation, and systems-integration initiatives. The position does not provide employment-based visa sponsorship or assume responsibility for employment visa or work authorization sponsorship now or in the future.
