Full job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Learning Designer based in the United States. The Senior Learning Designer is a senior individual contributor responsible for leading learning design across digital content initiatives from initial brief through launch. The role combines instructional design expertise, assessment craftsmanship, and initiative leadership to ensure high-quality learning experiences for K–8 students. You will translate strategic goals into practical design frameworks, content specifications, and assessment standards that teams can execute consistently. The position also plays an important role in mentoring other designers and strengthening shared design practices through feedback, resources, and workshops. As part of a digitally focused environment, you will contribute to AI-assisted content workflows, including prompt design, evaluation frameworks, and quality rubrics. You will collaborate closely with product, editorial, and project management partners while proactively managing quality, scope, and delivery risks. This is an opportunity to shape scalable learning experiences that support educators and meaningful outcomes for students.

Own the learning design work for assigned content initiatives, making and documenting key instructional decisions from the initial brief through launch in partnership with project management and senior learning design leadership. Translate strategic direction into clear design frameworks, assessment item blueprints, content specifications, and execution guidance for broader teams. Maintain consistency and instructional quality across collections and initiatives, including grade-band differentiation, cognitive demand, standards alignment, and overall learning coherence. Write and review high-quality formative assessment items, setting clear standards for item construction and modeling strong assessment design practices for other team members. Establish distractor logic standards, identify recurring quality issues, and address systemic gaps through improved specifications, guidelines, or direct feedback. Provide thoughtful feedback on assessment items and learning design decisions, explaining the rationale behind recommendations to strengthen the judgment and capabilities of other designers. Develop shared resources such as design guidelines, worked examples, rubrics, and short workshops when recurring quality needs are identified. Partner on AI-enabled content pipelines by contributing to prompt design, output evaluation frameworks, quality rubrics, and systematic review processes for AI-generated content. Identify opportunities to improve workflows through AI tools and bring practical recommendations to learning design leadership. Represent learning design within product discovery and development activities for assigned initiative squads. Collaborate effectively with project management, editorial, product, and other cross-functional teams while proactively identifying scope, quality, delivery, and resourcing risks. Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Education, Instructional Design, Curriculum & Instruction, or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred. 7+ years of experience designing K–8 curriculum and learning experiences, particularly within edtech or technology-based learning products. Strong portfolio demonstrating experience developing high-quality K–8 formative assessment items for digital learning products and taking ownership of quality across a broader collection or initiative. Deep understanding of learning research, instructional design principles, and how learning experiences are applied in classroom environments. Experience designing instruction and assessments for multilingual learners in a K–8 technology-based product environment strongly preferred. Strong knowledge of K–8 standards in at least one core subject area, with Science or Math preferred, and the ability to use standards as meaningful design inputs. Familiarity with the WIDA framework and standards, as well as national standards such as NGSS and CCSS and state-specific English Language Development standards, particularly those used in California, Texas, and Arizona, is strongly preferred. Demonstrated experience leading learning design within a content initiative, including making design decisions, maintaining quality, and coordinating with cross-functional stakeholders. Demonstrated experience with AI-generated content workflows, including prompt design, output evaluation, rubric development, or related systematic quality processes. Strong instructional writing and assessment design skills, with the ability to establish and communicate clear quality standards. Comfortable making, defending, and documenting instructional design decisions independently rather than simply executing predefined direction. Strong coaching and feedback skills, with an interest in developing the capabilities and judgment of other learning designers. Analytical and detail-oriented approach, with the ability to define what high-quality learning design looks like and apply standards consistently. Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively with project managers, editorial teams, product partners, and other stakeholders. Digital fluency, including experience designing for interactive environments and working with content management systems and AI-assisted content workflows. Ability to work remotely within the United States, with the Eastern Time Zone strongly preferred, and occasional travel as required. Candidates must reside in one of the approved hiring states and be legally authorized to work in the United States. Benefits: Annual salary range of $80,000–$95,000 USD. Geo-neutral U.S. compensation approach based on role and level rather than location. Remote flexibility for eligible U.S.-based employees, with an in-person component at the New York headquarters or other meeting locations depending on the role. Competitive compensation designed around experience, skills, role level, and internal equity. Opportunity to contribute directly to digital learning experiences that support educators and students. Collaborative, creative, and learning-focused working environment. Culture that values diverse perspectives, inclusion, professional growth, and collaboration. Opportunity to work alongside professionals from education, technology, data science, writing, engineering, creative, and other disciplines.
