Senior Platform Engineer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Platform Engineer based in Germany. As a Senior Platform Engineer, you will help build and evolve the foundational infrastructure and services that enable product and engineering teams to work efficiently at scale. You’ll combine strong software engineering skills with hands-on expertise across GCP, AWS, Kubernetes, and Terraform. The role offers significant ownership over platform architecture, infrastructure automation, reliability, security, and developer experience. You’ll work closely with development teams to understand their needs and turn them into scalable self-service solutions. You’ll also contribute to CI/CD systems, internal tools, APIs, and operational improvements. This is an individual contributor role within a collaborative, globally distributed, and fully remote engineering environment.

Design, build, and continuously improve scalable, reliable, and secure cloud infrastructure across GCP and AWS. Architect and maintain Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, applying software engineering practices such as reusable modules, testing, and predictable deployments. Deploy, operate, and optimize Kubernetes environments, including GKE and EKS, with responsibility for networking, upgrades, service meshes, availability, performance, and resource utilization. Develop and maintain internal CI/CD systems and automation using technologies such as Argo CD, Atlantis, or similar tools. Diagnose and resolve complex platform issues involving performance, scalability, reliability, and security, while contributing to incident response and post-mortem processes. Drive automation initiatives that reduce manual work, minimize operational risk, and improve system reliability and efficiency. Partner closely with development teams to understand infrastructure and developer-experience needs and translate them into effective platform capabilities and roadmaps. Develop internal platform products, services, tools, and APIs that improve self-service and developer productivity. Implement strong cloud security practices covering access control, vulnerability management, encryption, compliance, audits, and relevant standards such as SOC 2 and GDPR. Contribute to technical direction through code reviews, knowledge sharing, mentorship, and close collaboration with engineering peers. Requirements 6+ years of experience in platform engineering, DevOps engineering, or a closely related field, with experience building and operating complex cloud infrastructure. Strong hands-on experience with GCP and/or AWS, Kubernetes including GKE/EKS, and Terraform. Proven ability to build scalable, reliable, secure, and highly automated cloud environments. Strong software engineering fundamentals and coding proficiency in Go, TypeScript, or another relevant programming language, including knowledge of data structures, algorithms, testing, and defensive programming. Experience designing and maintaining CI/CD systems using tools such as Argo CD, Atlantis, or comparable technologies. Solid understanding of networking concepts and protocols within cloud environments. Extensive experience with monitoring and logging solutions such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, or similar tools, with the ability to investigate and resolve performance issues. Knowledge of cloud security best practices and experience applying them to production environments. Excellent written and verbal English communication skills. Self-organized, proactive, goal-oriented, and comfortable taking ownership in an individual contributor role. Ability to collaborate effectively within a remote, distributed, and international engineering team.
