Senior Software Engineer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Software Engineer based in United States. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to a high-impact digital payments modernization program for a major financial institution. You will work across legacy and cloud-native technologies, helping maintain mission-critical payment systems while shaping their future architecture. The position combines hands-on software engineering with domain-driven design, distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, identity, and performance engineering. You will build and modernize services supporting card-network integrations while establishing scalable, secure, and reliable engineering practices. The role also provides significant ownership across architecture, testing, CI/CD, event-driven systems, and application modernization. You will collaborate with engineers, technical leaders, and business stakeholders in a large, matrixed environment where requirements can evolve quickly. Design and develop domain models, bounded contexts, aggregate boundaries, and shared terminology using domain-driven design principles. Build and maintain Spring Boot, JPA, PostgreSQL Aurora, Liquibase, and business rules-based services supporting card-network integration. Design integration workflows and routing using Apache Camel or equivalent orchestration technologies for complex, stateful business processes. Develop event-driven architectures using Kafka, including topic and schema design, reliable producer and consumer patterns, and integration with workflow and rules engines. Develop independently deployable micro-frontend applications using Next.js, React, and TypeScript while supporting their evolution toward shared frontend architectures. Own OAuth2/OIDC identity architecture, including provider integration, token validation, session management, and revocation strategies. Establish and govern AWS IAM, S3, and CloudFront architecture across multiple environments and define appropriate security and access standards. Lead deployments on internal cloud hosting platforms and contribute to cloud-native application modernization initiatives. Drive test-driven development and build continuous testing and automation pipelines covering unit, contract, integration, and end-to-end testing. Design and execute enterprise-scale performance testing strategies, identify bottlenecks, and implement measurable improvements across distributed payment services. Profile and validate applications across Java, Oracle, Tomcat, WebSphere, PostgreSQL, OpenShift, and other enterprise technology environments. Build and maintain backend services using Java, PostgreSQL, and OpenShift while supporting migration from legacy infrastructure to cloud-native platforms. Contribute to PCI-compliant data lifecycle and purging solutions, including token removal and event-driven data processing. Participate in code reviews, architecture discussions, technical planning, and cross-team initiatives while serving as a senior engineering resource where needed. Leverage AI-assisted development tools to improve engineering productivity, code quality, and development workflows. Requirements: 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, primarily focused on Java. Bachelor's degree required, or equivalent specialized training and progressively responsible technology experience in lieu of the degree. Strong experience with relational databases, particularly Oracle and/or PostgreSQL; PostgreSQL Aurora and Liquibase experience is a strong plus. Experience deploying and operating applications in OpenShift, Kubernetes, or comparable containerized environments. Experience with Spring Boot/JPA, business rules engines such as Drools, and integration frameworks such as Apache Camel. Working knowledge of Kafka or comparable event-streaming platforms, including topic/schema design and reliable producer/consumer patterns. Practical production experience applying domain-driven design concepts such as bounded contexts, aggregates, and ubiquitous language. Demonstrated ability to design authorization and data-access controls rather than simply implementing predefined security models. Experience designing and governing cloud IAM, storage, and CDN architectures using AWS IAM, S3, CloudFront, or comparable technologies. Experience with Next.js, React, and TypeScript, including micro-frontend architectures and independently deployable frontend applications. Strong understanding of OAuth2/OIDC identity flows, including identity provider integration, token validation, and session/revocation design. At least one enterprise-level performance engineering engagement involving strategy development, tooling selection, test execution, and communication of findings. Experience with performance profiling, load testing, bottleneck analysis, and optimization of high-throughput distributed systems. Demonstrated ability to establish streamlined performance and testing frameworks from the ground up with limited guidance. Experience implementing test-driven development practices and continuous testing automation within CI/CD pipelines. Background in digital payments, card processing, or financial services technology is strongly preferred. Understanding of PCI compliance and secure data handling practices. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical topics to non-technical stakeholders. Ability to collaborate effectively across large, matrixed programs involving multiple engineering teams and stakeholders. Comfortable working through ambiguity, evolving requirements, and complex technical challenges. Experience with PGLogical or PostgreSQL logical replication, AI-assisted development tools, bank or card-network integration programs, or segregated/air-gapped development environments is a plus.
