Senior Staff Software Engineer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Staff Software Engineer based in India. This is a highly influential individual contributor role focused on shaping technical strategy across multiple engineering teams, systems, and business domains. You’ll lead the architecture and delivery of complex, scalable, secure, and reliable software solutions from discovery through production. The role combines deep technical expertise with broad organizational influence, helping teams make thoughtful decisions around performance, cost, security, and long-term maintainability. You’ll work closely with Product, Engineering, Data, Risk, Compliance, Operations, and other stakeholders to connect technology decisions with meaningful business outcomes. You’ll also mentor senior technical talent and strengthen engineering practices across the organization. Provide senior technical leadership across multiple engineering teams, systems, and business domains, influencing architecture, technical strategy, and execution. Lead the design and implementation of scalable, reliable, secure, and maintainable backend services, APIs, integrations, platform capabilities, and distributed systems. Drive complex cross-functional technical initiatives from discovery and design through delivery, production operation, and continuous improvement. Partner with Product, Engineering, Data, Risk, Compliance, Operations, Customer Experience, and business stakeholders to align technical decisions with business objectives. Evaluate existing systems and identify opportunities to improve reliability, scalability, performance, observability, maintainability, cost efficiency, and developer productivity. Influence technical roadmaps, architecture standards, engineering priorities, and long-term modernization strategies across teams. Establish and promote strong practices around code quality, testing, CI/CD, monitoring, documentation, security, and operational excellence. Mentor Staff Engineers, senior engineers, and technical leads, helping strengthen architecture, execution, ownership, and technical judgment. Guide teams through trade-offs involving delivery speed, quality, scalability, reliability, security, cost, and long-term maintainability. Lead or support modernization initiatives spanning legacy and modern systems, platforms, integrations, and business-critical applications. Contribute to systems supporting customer communications, telephony, contact center workflows, servicing platforms, and enterprise integrations when required. Participate in production support, incident reviews, root-cause analysis, and initiatives focused on improving the reliability of critical systems. Identify practical opportunities to use AI-assisted engineering tools and automation to improve development workflows, operational efficiency, knowledge sharing, and team effectiveness. Requirements: 12+ years of professional software engineering experience, with deep expertise designing, building, and operating large-scale distributed systems. Proven experience providing technical leadership across multiple teams or complex technical domains and influencing technical direction without relying on direct authority. Strong experience with backend services, APIs, integrations, data flows, and cloud-based architectures. Proficiency in one or more modern programming languages such as Java, Python, Go, JavaScript/TypeScript, Kotlin, or similar. Strong knowledge of system design, software architecture, scalability, reliability, observability, security, and operational excellence. Experience working with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure, as well as relational and/or NoSQL databases. Hands-on experience with CI/CD, automated testing, monitoring, logging, alerting, and production operations. Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Experience mentoring senior engineers and helping engineering teams improve technical execution and decision-making. A strong ownership mindset and demonstrated ability to take ambiguous, cross-functional initiatives from strategy through successful completion. Experience with telephony, contact center platforms, IVR, call routing, voice systems, customer communications, or customer engagement technologies is a plus. Familiarity with platforms such as Twilio, Amazon Connect, Genesys, Five9, NICE, Cisco, Avaya, or similar technologies is beneficial. Experience integrating third-party SaaS platforms, vendor APIs, or enterprise systems is advantageous. Experience in fintech, financial services, lending, risk, servicing, collections, customer support, or other regulated environments is a plus. Experience modernizing legacy systems, improving business-critical platform reliability, or evaluating emerging technologies is valuable. Familiarity with AI-enabled engineering tools, copilots, automation platforms, or intelligent productivity solutions, along with sound judgment about where AI can be applied responsibly, is beneficial.
