Senior Staff Software Engineer, Tech Foundations

Our partner is looking for a Senior Staff Software Engineer, Tech Foundations based in United States. This senior technical leadership role focuses on shaping enterprise-wide reliability strategy and strengthening the resilience of large-scale infrastructure and products. You will define long-term reliability roadmaps, influence SRE architecture and engineering standards, and help teams build services that are highly available, performant, and easy to operate. The role combines hands-on engineering with broad technical influence across multiple teams and complex distributed systems. You will establish scalable incident management and production-readiness practices while proactively reducing operational toil and preventing future failures. As a senior individual contributor, you will also mentor engineers and build strong partnerships with engineering leaders across the organization. Develop and drive a long-term roadmap and vision for enterprise-wide reliability, serving as a strategic technical partner across the organization. Design, implement, and influence SRE architecture, engineering practices, innovation initiatives, and reliability standards across multiple teams. Establish scalable incident management processes, evaluate incident response practices, and reduce operational toil through improved processes and automation. Develop and promote a reliability model that aligns with engineering teams’ ownership of their services while strengthening operational excellence. Maintain a strong customer focus within the Reliability function by optimizing infrastructure and platforms for availability, performance, and resilience. Define and implement production-readiness standards, emphasizing automation, configuration as code, proactive failure prevention, and reliable design patterns such as circuit breakers and graceful degradation. Identify patterns and opportunities to increase leverage through improved tooling, automation, and proactive reliability practices. Partner closely with engineering leaders and product engineering teams on architecture and implementation decisions for large-scale distributed systems. Promote blameless postmortems and organizational learning following incidents, using insights to improve systems and processes. Mentor and lead Site Reliability Engineers through technical guidance, servant leadership, advocacy, and knowledge sharing. Requirements: Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD degree in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent professional experience. 12+ years of software engineering experience, including substantial experience in system architecture and design within consumer-facing technology environments. 5+ years of experience as a senior technical lead, architect, or equivalent technical leader driving direction and strategy across multiple teams or projects. Demonstrated expertise designing, building, and scaling highly available systems and platforms. Deep understanding of distributed systems, infrastructure reliability, and multi-cloud environments. Strong ability to develop technical strategy and influence architecture and engineering decisions across organizational boundaries. Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with engineering leaders and diverse technical teams. Hands-on engineering mindset with the ability to contribute code and participate directly in architecture and design work. Proven ability to mentor engineers, build technical alignment, and foster a proactive culture of reliability and operational excellence. Benefits: Base salary range of $244,000–$305,000 USD.
