THE ROLE / IMPACT As a Senior Technical SEO Manager, you will own the technical SEO roadmap and the SEO analytics function for xero.com http://xero.com, ensuring Xero is discoverable, measurable and continuously improving across both traditional search engines and AI answer engines. Your work shapes how millions of small businesses, accountants and bookkeepers find Xero. Working across a site that spans more than a dozen markets, you will lead advanced technical audits, translate what you find into a roadmap prioritised by business impact, and partner with engineering to deliver the fixes. You will also own how performance is measured, building automated reporting that turns complex search data into insight stakeholders can act on. Answer engine optimisation sits at the heart of this remit. How Xero is crawled, understood and cited by AI search is still being defined, and you will be one of the people defining it. THE TEAM & HOW THEY CONNECT You will join Xero's in-house SEO team, working alongside content marketing, SEO and AEO specialists and reporting to the Head of SEO. The team is AI-native: workflows are automated end to end, and we build our own tooling to scale what we do. The team embraces continuous learning, tests novel approaches and support one another to solve complex discovery challenges, partnering closely with engineering, marketing technology and marketing operations. Initially, the role will focus on:
- Leading a full technical audit of the marketing website across markets, with issues prioritized by business impact
- Defining and owning the technical SEO roadmap, maintaining clear visibility across stakeholders
- Partnering with engineering and marketing technology to embed technical SEO best practice and deliver fixes
- Owning the SEO analytics function, building automated reporting and delivering strategic insight
- Automating technical SEO workflows with AI agents to scale analysis and accelerate delivery WHERE AND HOW YOU CAN WORK We offer a flexible working environment with options for both hybrid and remote arrangements across Australia and New Zealand. Here are some of the things we are looking for:
- Deep, hands-on technical SEO expertise across crawl and indexation, internationalisation, rendering, schema markup and site architecture
- Substantial SEO experience, with a number of years in a technical SEO focused role, ideally at a SaaS, technology brand or e brands with complex multi-regional sites
- Strong SEO analytics capability, including building reporting frameworks, with proficiency in tools such as Screaming Frog, Ahrefs and the Google suite
- Hands-on with AI, having built agents, automations or workflows to scale your own work
- A systems thinker who sees how technical decisions ripple across content, product and business outcomes
- Strong cross-functional influence, with a track record of translating technical requirements into briefs that engineering teams can act on Apply even if your experience isn't a perfect match!
