This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Traffic Engineer - Rail based in United States. This role combines traffic engineering expertise with railroad coordination and project delivery across complex transportation projects. You will work on initiatives involving Class I railroads, state DOTs, local agencies, and other consultants to improve safety and mobility. The position offers the opportunity to develop specialized expertise in rail traffic engineering, traffic signal preemption, and grade crossing safety. You will balance technical design responsibilities with project coordination, client interaction, and ownership of project delivery activities. Your work will include site visits, traffic and preemption analysis, plan and study preparation, and collaboration on multifaceted projects. The role provides a pathway toward technical leadership within a specialized transportation engineering discipline. Occasional travel to project sites and client meetings is expected, creating opportunities for hands-on engagement with projects and stakeholders.

Apply traffic engineering expertise to rail-related projects, including traffic signal preemption, grade crossing safety, traffic operations studies, and related transportation services. Conduct traffic and preemption analysis and develop engineering designs that support safe and efficient transportation operations. Visit project sites to observe existing conditions, gather information, and support project development and delivery. Review and prepare engineering plans, studies, technical documentation, and other project deliverables. Coordinate with Class I railroads, state departments of transportation, local agencies, consultants, and internal project teams to advance project objectives. Contribute to project coordination and delivery activities while maintaining ownership of assigned technical work and deadlines. Communicate directly with clients and project stakeholders to understand requirements, address technical matters, and support successful project outcomes. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on complex projects and contribute technical expertise throughout the project lifecycle. Apply strong problem-solving, analytical, and mathematical skills to address traffic engineering challenges and develop practical solutions. Participate in occasional travel to job sites and client meetings as needed. Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering. Valid Professional Engineer (PE) license. 8+ years of experience in traffic or transportation engineering. Demonstrated experience with traffic engineering design and related technical analysis. Strong problem-solving, analytical, and mathematical skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to collaborate effectively with team members, clients, consultants, and other stakeholders. Demonstrated ownership and accountability for technical work and project responsibilities. Passion for applying engineering expertise to projects that positively affect communities. Ability to work effectively in a project-driven environment with multiple stakeholders and priorities. Benefits Colorado base salary range of $125,000 - $173,000 USD , where applicable. Minnesota base salary range of $115,000 - $160,000 USD , where applicable. Competitive 401(k) match.
