Telesat (Nasdaq and TSX: TSAT) is a leading global satellite operator, providing reliable and secure satellite-delivered communications solutions worldwide to broadcast, telecommunications, corporate and government customers for over 55 years. Backed by a legacy of engineering excellence, reliability and industry-leading customer service, Telesat has grown to be one of the largest and most successful global satellite operators. Telesat Lightspeed, our revolutionary Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite network, scheduled to begin service in 2027, will revolutionize global broadband connectivity for enterprise and Government users by delivering a combination of high capacity, security, resiliency and affordability with ultra-low latency and fiber-like speeds. Telesat is headquartered in Ottawa, Canada, and has offices and facilities around the world.

The company’s state-of-the-art Satellite fleet consists of 12 GEO satellites, the Canadian payload on ViaSat-1 and one LEO 3 demonstration satellite. For more information, follow Telesat on X and LinkedIn or visit www.telesat.com

We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated Senior Trainer, Instructional Design & Training to join our team, reporting directly to the GTM PMO & Business Operations Head. In this senior role, you will lead the design, development, and delivery of high-quality training programs and enablement materials for Telesat’s Business Support System (BSS) and the Canadian Department of National Defence (DND) customer under the Enhanced Satellite Communication Project (ESCP) — a major contract award. You will be accountable for the full training deliverable set, spanning the BSS, LEO Mission and Network Operations training and User Terminal (UT) operations and field maintenance training, translating complex technical content into structured, self-paced, and instructor-led curricula that meet Canada’s accessibility, format, and Learning Management System requirements. If you are a proactive learning professional with a passion for building operational readiness and a proven track record delivering training in demanding, mission-critical defence environments, we encourage you to apply and help us achieve our strategic goals.

Training Framework & Development Plans: Build development plans and training frameworks for both LEO Mission and Network Operations and User Terminal (UT) operations and field maintenance, based on mission and system configuration use cases and scenarios mutually agreed with Canada prior to material development.

Mission & Network Operations Curriculum: Establish baseline concepts of the LEO system, LS Portal / API functionality, mission operations and network monitoring, and reporting — including procedural flow, console fluency, mission planning, and routine operations and control.

User Terminal Curriculum: Develop UT training covering configuration and components, deployment, commissioning, stowage, operations, safety guidelines, troubleshooting, and field-swappable components, with each course focused on a single UT type identified in coordination with Canada.

Instructional Design & Formats: Design structured, self-paced, and repeatable training materials in the required formats — including PowerPoint and immersive video — that support remote product delivery and are installable and accessible within Canada’s IT infrastructure and Learning Management System.

Accessibility & Standards Compliance: Ensure all web-based training materials are created in accordance with the CAN/ASC – EN 301 549:2024 accessibility standard and prepared in English, using CFITES (A-P9-050-000/PT-006) as a guide for training development where applicable.

Instructor-Led Delivery: Plan and deliver in-person, instructor-led courses for operators and CAF members — including over-the-air (OTA) satellite training and hands-on use of fully functional UTs — across the required training serials at Contractor or DND facilities.

Review, Approval & Continuous Improvement: Submit training materials to Canada for evaluation and approval prior to commencement of training, and support updates and additional serials on an as-and-when-required basis via the Task Authorization process.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Education, Instructional Design, Adult Learning, Communications, or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred.

Certifications: Instructional design or training certification (e.g., CTDP, CPTD/ATD, or equivalent) an asset; LMS and e-learning / immersive video authoring tool proficiency (e.g., Articulate, Captivate, iSpring) preferred. Experience: Minimum of 8+ years of experience in instructional design and training delivery, including senior or lead responsibility for end-to-end curriculum development.

Proven track record designing and delivering technical or systems training in complex, regulated, or mission-critical environments.

Experience supporting government, defence, or telecommunications customers is highly desirable; familiarity with satellite communications, network operations, or user terminal equipment an asset.

Working knowledge of accessibility standards (e.g., CAN/ASC – EN 301 549:2024) and defence training frameworks such as CFITES is an asset.

Strong verbal and written communication skills in dealing with clients, internal and external stakeholders, senior management and staff.

Ability to effectively communicate to technical and non-technical individuals.

Experience with small, high-performing teams; collaborative and independently driven.

Must demonstrate a flexible, open-minded attitude and have strong interpersonal and facilitation skills.

Eligibility to obtain and maintain a Government of Canada security clearance (Secret level) and a Controlled Goods Program (CGP) clearance is required given the DND customer engagement. Fluent in English, Bilingual French an asset.

Work will be supervised at a high level by the GTM PMO & Business Operations Head.

The applicant must possess an ability to work well both individually and in a team environment and have strong verbal and written communication skills.

This role has no direct reports, but will work and interact with multi-disciplinary engineering, operations, program, and commercial teams, as well as directly with the DND customer and its Technical Authority.

Working conditions are generally comfortable typical of an office environment.

In-person, instructor-led delivery at Contractor or DND facilities is required, and both international and domestic travel is anticipated.
