Senior Transmission Planning Consultant

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Transmission Planning Consultant based in United States. This is a senior, client-facing opportunity supporting complex transmission planning initiatives across the electric utility industry. You’ll lead advanced studies that inform grid reliability, resource planning, congestion management, and regulatory compliance. The role combines deep technical expertise with project leadership, client advisory, and team mentorship. You’ll work directly with utilities, ISOs/RTOs, cooperatives, and other energy-sector stakeholders to define objectives and develop practical methodologies. Your work will span stability, power flow, reliability, short-circuit, production costing, and generator interconnection analyses. As a trusted technical advisor, you’ll help translate complex engineering findings into actionable recommendations and high-quality deliverables. This fully remote role offers the opportunity to shape meaningful energy-sector projects while collaborating with experienced professionals across North America.

Lead and manage advanced transmission planning studies covering transient stability, power flow, transfer capability, reliability, short-circuit, congestion management, and economic dispatch. Serve as a primary client contact, defining project objectives, methodologies, scope, timelines, and deliverables. Provide technical leadership, quality assurance, and oversight throughout project execution. Perform and oversee transmission adequacy and reliability assessments, including contingency analysis, flowgate analysis, and import/export limit assessments. Prepare, review, and present detailed technical reports documenting assumptions, methodologies, analyses, findings, and recommendations. Support generator interconnection, production costing, TPL compliance, harmonics, and related transmission planning initiatives. Guide and mentor junior engineers and consultants, supporting knowledge transfer and professional development. Contribute to proposals, client meetings, business development activities, and thought leadership initiatives. Collaborate with senior leadership to strengthen technical capabilities and develop or enhance service offerings. Manage competing priorities effectively while maintaining high standards for technical quality, client service, and delivery. Requirements Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related field; advanced education may be considered alongside relevant professional experience. Relevant experience aligned with senior-level transmission planning, operations, engineering consulting, or utility work, including approximately 15+ years with a B.S., 12+ years with an M.S., or 8+ years with a Ph.D. Deep knowledge of transmission system planning processes, methodologies, industry practices, and reliability requirements. Strong experience with transient stability, short-circuit, voltage, production costing, TPL compliance, and generator interconnection analysis. Required proficiency with PSS/E and strong experience with Transmission Adequacy & Reliability Assessment (TARA), including N-1 contingency and flowgate analysis. Familiarity with NERC, FERC, and ISO/RTO requirements and processes, including environments such as PJM, ERCOT, MISO, SPP, CAISO, WECC, SERC, NYISO, and ISO-NE. Experience with tools such as Aspen, EasyPower, PSLF, EMTP/ATP, PSCAD, or PROMOD is advantageous. Experience with harmonics analysis is a plus. Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills. Demonstrated ability to lead complex technical studies and collaborate effectively with project teams. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience presenting technical findings to clients. Proven ability to mentor engineers and consultants and support their professional development. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Ability to work independently and effectively in a fully remote environment. Willingness to travel occasionally, approximately 3–5 times per year. Benefits Annual base salary of $160,000–$220,000 USD , plus an annual bonus; actual compensation varies based on experience. 100% remote work environment with infrequent travel, expected to be approximately 3–5 times per year.
