Overview

The final Ambizione call funds eligible early-career researchers to lead an independent project at a Swiss higher education institution for up to four years.

Complete grant details

The Swiss National Science Foundation opened the final Ambizione call on 3 August 2026. Applications close on 3 November 2026 at 17:00 CET. Ambizione supports early-career researchers who want to conduct, manage and lead an independent project at a Swiss higher education institution. A standard Ambizione grant can cover the grantee's salary and project funds; an Ambizione project grant covers project funds only. Awards run for a maximum of four years. The earliest possible project start is 1 September 2027 and the latest possible start is 1 September 2028.

Eligibility requirements

Applicants must hold a doctorate or qualifying medical degree. For PhD holders, the application normally must be submitted no later than four years after the doctorate and applicants need at least 12 months of research activity after the doctorate. The 2026 call also requires a qualifying link with Switzerland, such as Swiss nationality, a degree from a Swiss higher education institution, or at least 12 months of research/clinical work at a Swiss research institution. Medical applicants have separate eligibility windows; applicants should check the current Ambizione regulations.

Tips for this grant

Practical Job and Scholarship guidance. These tips do not replace official rules or create new eligibility requirements.

  1. Check eligibility, funding coverage, study/project level and every required document before investing time in the application.
  2. Prepare transcripts, references, language tests, proposal/motivation statement and proof documents early.
  3. Separate the scholarship deadline from any university/program admission deadline; they may be different.
  4. Treat “fully funded” as a source fact only when the official provider explicitly confirms the covered costs.

Verification notes

Verified on 27 August 2026 against the official SNSF Ambizione page: call opened 3 August 2026; deadline 3 November 2026 at 17:00 CET; maximum duration four years; standard grants cover salary plus project funds while project grants cover project costs only; the page lists the 2026 Swiss-link and career-stage requirements.
