Who we are at Osmo:
Full job description
Who we are at Osmo: Osmo is a digital olfaction company, on a mission to give computers a sense of smell to improve the health and wellbeing of human life. Why? Our sense of smell both enriches and saves lives, and has a deep and direct connection to our emotions and memory. Olfactory Intelligence has applications across industries including fragrance, manufacturing, security, medicine, and more. We believe in the power of automation and thoughtfully applied AI/ML to solve problems beyond the reach of human intuition alone. We're headquartered in Elizabeth, NJ, with an additional office in Somerville, MA. We provide complimentary shuttle service from Brooklyn and Newark, NJ. ABOUT THE ROLE We're hiring a Software, Technical Program Manager to embed directly with Osmo's Software and AI organization. You'll be the connective tissue between our ML engineers, applied ML scientists, software engineers, and the rest of the company — driving how and when we build, managing complex dependencies, and removing blockers so the team can move. It's a role that rewards curiosity: the more you understand how the system actually works, the better you'll be at anticipating where it breaks. This is a software-specific TPM role, and we mean it. You'll need to be technically credible with engineers and ML scientists at a detailed level — comfortable in a design review, comfortable reading code, comfortable understanding a model architecture decision and its downstream impacts. You'll be driving technical execution and cross-functional delivery inside one of the most ambitious applied AI problems in the world, which takes real tenacity when timelines get hard and real kindness when you're the one asking a stretched team for more. WHAT YOU'LL DO:
- Be the Execution Thought Partner — Partner directly with software and ML leadership on execution strategy, resource planning, and timeline delivery.
- Turn Ambition Into Milestones — Translate product and scientific ambitions into clear, actionable engineering milestones, and build the operational roadmap from architecture to deployment.
- Build Your Own AI-Powered Tools — Use AI tools and workflows in your own work for progress tracking, dependency mapping, and operational efficiency.
- Own Execution and Dependencies — Identify cross-functional blockers, make timeline tradeoffs visible, and drive them to resolution with tenacity, not just escalation.
- Structure Release Readiness — Build deployment schedules for ML models and software systems.
- Sit Close to the Real Work — Be in design reviews, read the code when you need to, and stay genuinely curious about how the system actually works.
- Develop Deep Technical Intuition — Understand architectural bottlenecks, latency risks, and integration challenges.
- Translate Across the Technical Divide — Move execution status and risk between technical teams and stakeholders, with the kindness to make hard news land without losing the substance.
- Bring Structure Without Bureaucracy — Scope and sequence ambiguous initiatives without adding process for its own sake.
- Surface Risk Early — Bring blockers forward with proposed solutions, not just escalations.
- Set the Bar — Help define what good technical program management looks like at Osmo. WHO YOU ARE:
- 10+ Years of Combined Depth — Software/ML engineering plus program management or TPM experience.
- Fluent in the ML Lifecycle — Data, training, evaluation, validation, deployment.
- Technically Fluent, Not Just Technically Aware — Reads code, follows model architecture discussions in real time.
- A Proven Technical Execution Driver — Delivered complex, multi-team projects, with the tenacity to see them through when things slip.
- An AI-Native Operator — Fluency with modern AI tools and a track record of using them in your own work.
- Curious by Default — Walks into an undefined space and asks the questions that produce clarity, rather than waiting to be told the plan.
- A Clear, Confident Communicator — Bridges technical and business stakeholders with the kindness to bring people along.
- Willing to Push Back — Comfortable challenging senior leaders when timelines or resources don't add up.
- Bachelor's degree or higher in CS or equivalent experience.
- Hybrid in Elizabeth, NJ — Available hybrid at 3 days. WAYS TO STAND OUT:
- You Still Write Code — Moved into program management but still write code by choice.
- You've Shipped Applied AI at Scale — Orchestrated delivery of applied ML products or platforms.
- You've Built the Process, Not Inherited It — Built engineering delivery process from scratch, with the tenacity that takes.
- You Validate It Yourself — Comfort with Python, SQL, or notebooks to self-check status.
- You've Built Tools That Mattered — Built AI-powered tools that materially improved org operations.
- You've Been a Trusted Execution Partner — Partnered with founders or senior technical leaders directly.
- You Drive Without Authority — Drives alignment through kindness and credibility rather than a title. WHAT WE OFFER:
- Catered Lunch — Mon/Wed/Fri; Newark, NJ and Brooklyn shuttles
- 401(k) savings plan and employer match
- Competitive salary and meaningful equity in a high-growth company
- Flexible PTO and paid family leave
- Commuter benefits (pre-tax transit and parking) If this role inspires you we’d encourage you to apply. We are committed to recruiting, developing, and retaining an incredible team optimized for a diversity of thought, background, and approaches. For all Full-Time Employees, compensation is just one component of Osmo’s total rewards approach, which is designed to support the well-being, growth, and long-term success of our team members. Depending on the role, this may include base salary or contract-based pay, along with access to health, dental, and vision coverage; a 401(k) retirement savings plan with company match; flexible paid time off and company holidays; and equity or incentive compensation for eligible roles. Actual compensation will vary based on factors such as experience, skills, location, internal equity, and other relevant business considerations.
