Full job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Sr. Controller - General Ledger Shared Services based in the United States. This is a hands-on accounting leadership role responsible for the end-to-end record-to-report process supporting a growing portfolio of businesses. You will lead monthly, quarterly, and year-end close activities while establishing consistent, scalable, and well-controlled general ledger operations. The role combines technical accounting expertise, shared services leadership, internal controls, acquisition integration, and process transformation. You will manage a blended onshore and nearshore team and help build an organization capable of scaling as additional businesses are integrated. A key focus will be creating standardized processes, strengthening SOX-ready controls, and using technology and automation to improve close efficiency and accuracy. You will work closely with Controllers, FP&A, Tax, Treasury, Audit, and senior finance leadership across multiple entities and time zones. This opportunity is ideal for an experienced CPA and shared services leader who thrives in complex, high-growth environments and remains comfortable working directly in the details when needed.

As the Sr. Controller, General Ledger Shared Services, you will own the R2R process across multiple entities while leading the people, controls, systems, and processes required to deliver an accurate, timely, and scalable close. Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close calendar across supported entities, targeting a consistent close within 8–10 business days. Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, flux analysis, and other close deliverables before consolidation as appropriate. Remain hands-on with complex journal entries, reconciliations, technical accounting memos, and other critical close activities when required. Oversee balance sheet reconciliations, fixed assets, depreciation, prepaids, accruals, deferred revenue, tax entries, inventory adjustments, and year-end accounting activities. Ensure trial balances, variance analyses, and close checklists are accurately completed and loaded into the appropriate consolidation and reporting systems. Maintain chart-of-accounts standards and approve new account requests. Own the GL control matrix, process narratives, flowcharts, reconciliation standards, and journal-entry approval requirements. Support SOX 404 compliance and partner with Internal Audit and external auditors on walkthroughs, testing, audit requests, and remediation activities. Lead, coach, and develop a growing team of General Ledger professionals across onshore and nearshore locations. Define team structure, work allocation, staffing models, quality metrics, hiring plans, and development paths as the organization scales. Build a culture centered on accountability, documentation, continuous improvement, and effective cross-time-zone collaboration. Lead the GL workstream for newly acquired businesses, including staffing plans, chart-of-accounts mapping, opening balances, data conversion, and first-close activities. Continuously refine the integration playbook to make future acquisitions faster and more efficient. Act as the R2R liaison for OneStream and related ERP and financial systems supporting close, reconciliation, and reporting activities. Represent the R2R function in ERP and systems initiatives, including requirements gathering, solution design, UAT, implementation, and post-launch stabilization. Identify and implement automation opportunities across reconciliations, recurring entries, templates, and other repetitive accounting activities. Support change management through stakeholder communication, training, documentation, and adoption tracking. Partner with Controllers, FP&A, Tax, Treasury, and shared services leadership to meet service expectations and resolve issues. Develop and monitor service-level agreements and monthly close KPIs. Provide timely updates to senior finance leadership, proactively escalating risks to deadlines, controls, or quality. Requirements The role requires extensive accounting leadership experience, strong U.S. GAAP and public-company control knowledge, and a proven track record of building scalable shared services operations across multiple entities. Active, unrestricted CPA license in good standing. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 5+ years leading teams. 4+ years of direct experience leading a GL or R2R function within a shared services center or global business services environment supporting multiple entities or business units. Hands-on experience with OneStream, preferably in close, consolidation, reporting, or account reconciliation activities; experience with Oracle Hyperion/HFM or comparable CPM platforms may also be relevant. Public-company experience with SOX 404, including designing, documenting, operating, testing, and remediating R2R controls. Direct experience working with external auditors and supporting audit walkthroughs and testing. Experience managing offshore or outsourced accounting teams, including work transitions, quality reviews, and cross-time-zone coordination. Experience supporting at least two acquisition integrations, including chart-of-accounts mapping, opening balances, data conversion, and first-close activities. Proven experience building and scaling high-performing shared services teams, including hiring, role design, restructuring, and developing GL leaders. Demonstrated change leadership through major process or technology transformations such as ERP implementations, close transformations, or shared services transitions. Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, including accruals, fixed assets, leases under ASC 842, revenue under ASC 606, and business combinations under ASC 805. Advanced Excel skills and comfort working with large, complex, multi-entity datasets. Experience with NetSuite and QuickBooks Online is preferred. Experience leading nearshore teams in Latin America is advantageous. Experience in private equity-backed, roll-up, or serial-acquirer environments with numerous small entities is a plus. Experience supporting IPO readiness or early-stage SOX compliance is beneficial. Familiarity with BlackLine, FloQast, OneStream Account Reconciliations, or comparable close and reconciliation tools is preferred. Lean, Six Sigma, or similar process improvement training is advantageous. Familiarity with AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, or Copilot is beneficial. Strong hands-on leadership skills, with the ability to step into detailed accounting work when deadlines require it. Strong operational judgment and the ability to translate strategy into clear procedures, workflows, and standard operating practices. Control-oriented mindset with a consistent focus on documentation, evidence, review, and compliance. Strong scalability mindset, with the ability to design processes that can absorb future acquisitions without unnecessary rework. Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain accounting issues clearly to non-accountants, business leaders, and executives. Strong cross-cultural leadership capabilities and the ability to build trust with distributed teams. Composure and organization when managing multiple close calendars, integrations, and competing deadlines. Benefits Fully remote work within the continental United States. Daily collaboration with a nearshore team that largely operates within Eastern business hours. Extended hours may occasionally be required during close and year-end periods. Occasional early or late meetings to coordinate with distributed teams. Travel of up to 15%. Medical, dental, and vision insurance. FSA and HSA options. Most available plans provide 100% employer-paid employee premiums. 15 vacation days. 12 paid holidays. 5 sick days and 3 floating holidays, subject to applicable accrual and carryover policies. Ongoing access to accounting, finance, and small-business expertise across the broader organization. Opportunity to build and scale a multi-entity shared services function. Significant exposure to acquisition integration, process transformation, automation, and public-company accounting controls.
