Are you passionate about solving complex technical challenges at the intersection of innovation and impact? Join Amazon's Business Data Technologies (BDT) organization as a Solutions Architect, where you'll serve as the critical technical bridge between the teams building Amazon's data platform and the internal teams transforming how they leverage it. In this role, you'll apply your expertise in large-scale data systems architecture and cross-functional technical communication to guide internal customers through their most challenging data initiatives.

You'll lead architecture reviews for interconnected systems, translate complex technical concepts for multiple audiences simultaneously, and identify friction points across consultation patterns to drive systemic improvements. Working directly with internal Amazon teams, you'll combine deep technical knowledge with strategic thinking to accelerate data lake adoption, modernize legacy platforms, and architect scalable solutions that unlock business value across the organization.

Key job responsibilities Lead architecture reviews and provide technical guidance for large-scale data systems, evaluating design choices, identifying scalability bottlenecks, security considerations, and performance optimization opportunities while ensuring solutions are extensible and aligned with best practices.

Define and validate technical and business requirements for interconnected, complex systems by working closely with internal Amazon teams to understand their data platform needs and architect solutions that address both immediate challenges and long-term business outcomes.

Deliver clear, compelling written technical communication that resonates across multiple audiences simultaneously, creating reusable content such as architecture patterns, onboarding documentation, and technical guidance that educates teams on data platform capabilities and best practices.

Drive root cause analysis of recurring friction points identified through consultation patterns, aggregating evidence across customer interactions to identify systemic issues and partner with product and engineering teams to translate feedback into actionable improvements.

Build and maintain trusted advisor relationships with key internal customers, providing ongoing architecture guidance, migration support from legacy platforms, and strategic counsel that helps teams achieve their goals with Amazon's data lake technologies

A day in the life Your day begins by triaging consultation requests that arrive through the team's ticket intake system, where you'll be assigned to new architecture challenges through round-robin distribution. You'll dive deep into a team's data architecture, reviewing their requirements for a large-scale migration off a legacy platform, and crafting recommendations that balance immediate needs with long-term scalability. Between consultations, you'll check in with established customers you've built relationships with, helping them navigate obstacles in their ongoing data lake initiatives and celebrating wins as they achieve key milestones with your guidance.

About the team You'll join a tight-knit team of four Solutions Architects who serve as the technical connective tissue between Amazon's data platform builders and the diverse internal teams who depend on it. The team's mission is clear: accelerate data platform adoption across Amazon by providing architecture guidance, onboarding support, and expert migration assistance.

This team thrives on collaboration and knowledge sharing, working together to identify patterns across consultations and continuously improving how Amazon teams leverage data infrastructure. You'll be part of a culture that values technical depth, clear communication, and the satisfaction of removing blockers that help internal customers succeed with their most critical data initiatives.

Basic Qualifications

• 8+ years of specific technology domain areas (e.g. software development, cloud computing, systems engineering, infrastructure, security, networking, data & analytics) experience
• 3+ years of design, implementation, or consulting in applications and infrastructures experience
• 10+ years of IT development or implementation/consulting in the software or Internet industries experience
• Experience working with or having knowledge of cloud computing and existing cloud technologies
• Can communicate effectively with all levels of the organization

Preferred Qualifications

• 5+ years of infrastructure architecture, database architecture and networking experience
• Experience working with end user or developer communities
• Knowledge of AWS services, market segments, customer base and industry verticals
• Knowledge of cloud architecture
• Experience architecting/operating solutions built on AWS, or experience implementing a cloud-based technology solution
• Experience establishing credibility quickly with senior level executives across organizations

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
