As a Station Controller at Auckland One Rail, you’ll play a vital role in overseeing the safe and efficient operation of our stations and stabling yards. You’ll be responsible for delivering exceptional customer service, managing station operations, coordinating incident responses, and ensuring safety and security across the network. You will do this through operations management, supervision, monitoring and administration coordinated from Auckland Rail Operation Centre (AROC) based in Ellerslie.
As you'll be the frontline operational contact for station staff, you will be someone who is proactive, detail oriented, ready to work in a fast-paced environment and have strong communication skills. You will monitor, process, analyse and evaluate all Control Room equipment systems and administrative procedures, to meet compliance with operational, safety, environmental and security criteria. This role requires 24/7 coverage, and a willingness to work shift patterns including nights, weekends, and public holidays.
What you'll be doing:
- Liaise effectively with all internal and external stakeholders to support seamless station operations for passengers and staff
- Monitor and supervise contractors responsible for facility management, security, and maintenance, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental standards
- Provide rapid response to maintenance issues and keep stakeholders updated on progress.
- Manage incident response protocols for emergencies and unexpected events.
- Oversee operational systems such as access control, HVAC, surveillance, and power systems.
- Implement safety management systems and emergency call-out protocols to minimise risk.
- Monitor CCTV systems and manage footage requests to relevant authorities.
- Report and coordinate with emergency services (FENZ, KiwiRail) during facility incidents.
- Fulfil Fire Warden duties and take on Chief Fire Warden responsibilities as needed.
- Assist with system testing and provide feedback on infrastructure changes (e.g., CRL projects)
Requirements
What you'll bring:
- Minimum of 2-3 years’ experience in security systems, facilities or transport management (rail experience highly regarded)
- Strong customer service focus with excellent communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities calmly in a fast-paced environment
- A proactive approach to safety, security, and continuous improvement
- Willingness to work shift patterns including nights, weekends, and public holidays
