About the Company General Matter enriches uranium. We are designing, building, and operating the world’s lowest-cost enrichment services, here in the US.   In the process, we are restoring America’s ability to produce nuclear fuel to power AI, advanced manufacturing and critical industries our country relies on to remain competitive.  Fuel drives the cost of advanced reactor electricity production, and enrichment drives the cost of the fuel that advanced reactors consume.  Reliable, low-cost enrichment is the catalyst for the nuclear Renaissance now under way. Our mission is to make nuclear not only the cleanest and safest source of baseload power, but also the most affordable.  We believe abundant nuclear energy will lead to a post-scarcity society.  We were incubated inside Founders Fund, like Anduril and Palantir before us, and are backed by over a dozen of the world's top venture capital firms.   Our lean, world-class team of engineers and operators is applying a first-principles approach to solving the problem of nuclear fuel production.   We are a mission-driven company with a culture of urgency, accountability, and transparency.  Help us build a high-energy society by making the cleanest, safest form of baseload energy the most affordable.  About This Role We are seeking a Civil Engineering Intern with an environmental focus to support critical infrastructure and environmental initiatives at our nuclear fuel cycle facility. As a Civil Engineering Intern, you will assist in designing, analyzing, and evaluating civil infrastructure solutions that align with environmental regulations and nuclear safety standards. You will work closely with environmental compliance, operations, and regulatory teams to support the facility's sustainability goals, water and soil management requirements, and structural integrity standards. Responsibilities Assist in the design and evaluation of stormwater management systems, secondary containment structures, wastewater treatment facilities, and foundation designs for nuclear-related infrastructure. Support regulatory compliance efforts by helping ensure civil engineering work aligns with NRC, EPA, DOE, and state environmental regulations related to nuclear fuel cycle operations. Support site and environmental assessments for soil stability, groundwater protection, flood mitigation, and seismic resilience. Assist in designing and optimizing waste handling and storage systems to help minimize environmental impact. Help design and maintain hydrology and stormwater management systems that prevent contamination and control runoff from nuclear facilities. Support structural analysis efforts to help assess facility structures against natural hazards, aging infrastructure concerns, and potential accidental loads. Collaborate with nuclear, mechanical, and environmental engineers, health physicists, and regulatory specialists to help develop holistic solutions. Support project coordination on civil/environmental engineering projects, helping track schedules, budgets, and safety requirements. Assist in developing engineering-based mitigation plans for flooding, erosion, and environmental containment in case of accidents or natural disasters. Basic Qualifications Current undergraduate or graduate student pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field. Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals. General knowledge of applicable industry standards for industrial facility construction and environmental compliance. Familiarity with AutoCAD, GIS, or civil engineering design software (e.g., Civil 3D, HEC-RAS, HY-8). Collaborative team member who thrives in fast-paced, multidisciplinary environments and is eager to learn. Preferred Skills and Experience Evidence of exceptional ability (prior projects, portfolio of work, completed products, etc). Coursework or project experience with stormwater management, hydrology, or geotechnical analysis. Interest in nuclear fuel cycle, radioactive waste management, or radiological environmental assessments. Exposure to seismic and flood hazard assessments. Experience in a fast-paced engineering environment or a highly technical role requiring a resourceful, entrepreneurial approach to complete tasks within tight timeframes or budget constraints. Additional Requirements Ability to work extended hours and weekends as necessary. Equal Opportunity Employer General Matter is an Equal Opportunity Employer; employment with General Matter is governed on the basis of merit, competence and qualifications and will not be influenced in any manner by race, color, religion, gender, national origin/ethnicity, veteran status, disability status, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, mental or physical disability or any other legally protected status.
