This is a senior tax role within a growing fintech environment, with responsibility for group-wide tax compliance, reporting, and risk management. You will work across multiple jurisdictions, including African, UK, and European markets, helping ensure accurate and timely tax obligations. The role combines hands-on tax operations with strategic advisory work supporting products, transactions, entities, and market expansion. Advise on tax implications related to business decisions, transactions, new products, entities, and market launches. Manage external tax advisers, reviewing deliverables for quality, scope, timelines, and budget. Ensure tax positions are aligned with applicable accounting standards and tax legislation, and assess their impact on financial reporting. Partner with auditors, service providers, and finance teams on tax calculations, reporting positions, and audit readiness. Oversee timely VAT payments and refunds while driving tax automation and continuous improvement. Oversee tax compliance and reporting across Africa, the United Kingdom, and Europe, including corporate tax, payroll taxes, VAT, GST, and SDL. Review tax returns, calculations, working papers, filing packs, and supporting documentation to ensure accuracy, completeness, and audit readiness. Coordinate transfer pricing master and local files, supporting documentation, returns, and external adviser engagements. Manage the group tax risk register, tax controls, remediation activities, and identification of potential exposures. Lead tax audits by coordinating information requests, advisers, dispute strategies, and recommended resolutions. Work with legal and compliance teams to ensure tax practices remain aligned with regulatory requirements. Escalate material tax exposures, uncertain tax positions, and significant tax authority matters where appropriate. Set objectives, prioritise workloads, coach team members, and build tax capability across the function. Provide tax guidance and training to colleagues, clearly explaining complex tax concepts to non-specialist stakeholders. Maintain strong relationships with finance leadership, legal and compliance teams, external advisers, and tax authorities. Requirements Postgraduate honours degree or postgraduate diploma in Accounting or Tax, or an equivalent advanced qualification. Chartered Accountant designation, professional tax qualification, MCom Tax, or comparable professional credential. Registration as a tax practitioner or recognised professional tax certification. 7–10 years of professional tax experience, including substantial experience managing tax projects, audits, and advisory activities. At least 5 years of experience working with VAT and indirect taxation. At least 5 years of experience supervising, coaching, or leading tax professionals. At least 5 years of experience in a multinational, cross-border organisation, accounting firm, financial institution, or fintech environment. Strong understanding of international tax regulations, particularly across African jurisdictions. Advanced knowledge of IFRS and tax compliance requirements. Experience preparing, reviewing, and managing different types of tax returns. Strong knowledge of international taxation and complex transfer pricing requirements. Proficiency with tax software, financial systems, and Microsoft Office. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities, with excellent attention to detail. Ability to assess complex tax matters and develop practical, commercially appropriate solutions. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Strong leadership, coaching, and mentoring capabilities. Ability to adapt effectively to changing regulations, business priorities, and cross-border requirements. Proactive, accountable, and solutions-focused approach to work. Benefits Opportunity to work in a growing fintech environment with exposure to multiple international jurisdictions. Broad scope across tax strategy, compliance, reporting, risk management, audits, and transfer pricing. Opportunity to influence business decisions involving new products, entities, and market expansion. Collaboration with senior finance leadership, legal and compliance teams, external advisers, auditors, and tax authorities. Opportunities to lead and develop a tax team while strengthening organisational tax capabilities. Remote/work-from-home opportunity, where applicable, with responsibility for maintaining reliable internet connectivity and a professional working environment. An environment that values diversity and inclusion and encourages professionals who meet the majority of the requirements to apply.
